Feb. 13: Family ice fishing and bonfire at the Discovery Center

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Kathy Claflin for the information in this story.)

Weather permitting, there will be a family ice fishing and bonfire on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants can make their own fishing pole at the Discovery Center, and then head to the lake to try it out as part of the DNR’s Free Fishing Weekend.

There will be an ice fishing demonstration as well as an area cleared for skating. Warm up afterwards around a bonfire while you roast marshmallows and drink hot chocolate. Bring your own hotdogs to cook for lunch.

Participants are asked to park at the Mill Lake lot on McClure Road or hike over from the Discovery Center, 17030 Bush Road in Sylvan Township.

Contact the DNR staff at 475-3170 or 475-8307 for more information.

Free admission. Program will be cancelled if ice conditions are not suitable.
