Feb. 13: Kiwanis Club to celebrate their special Valentines

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

Last Monday, the club heard from Chelsea High School Principal Mike Kapolka and Executive Director of Instruction, Curriculum, and Human Resources Marcus Kaemming.

They gave us numerous examples of the ways we could help students in the Chelsea School District.  For the last 15 years Chelsea Kiwanis has given out scholarships to deserving graduating seniors at the high school to help with their continuing education.  We will consider their suggestions and make a decision on some ways to augment the impact of our support.

On Friday, Feb. 24, students from Chelsea High School’s Key Club and Independence Hall will join with school administrators to participate in Michigan Law Enforcement’s Polar Plunge at University of Michigan’s Stadium (Big House).  To raise money for Special Olympics of Michigan, they will jump into some ice-cold water on the football field.

To support the cause go to www.firstgiving.com/polarplunge/UofM17

This Monday, we will celebrate with our Valentine’s at a special dinner in place of our regular business meeting.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
