Feb. 2: Chelsea Kiwanis Club hosts Joe Weber as its speaker; accepting applications for MI State Police Academy

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

The Kiwanis Club of Chelsea, in its 91st year, holds a weekly meeting on Monday nights at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea cafeteria and everyone is invited.

Featured at each meeting is a speaker, who typically begins a presentation at 6:45 p.m.

This week, club member Joe Weber will speak on his favorite pastime, chess. The game has been shown to improve brain function and he has inspired many youth and adults with his instruction in the game. Weber conducts sessions at Chelsea Library and Wendy’s Restaurant, among other sites, on a regular basis.

In addition, the club is now accepting applications for Michigan State Police Career Academy.

“We sponsor students interested in joining the State Police,” said Bob Milbrodt, and it is held each summer in Lansing. The academy gives an accurate experience, (strenuous and grueling), of the training and expectations of the job.

Last year, the club sponsored Hannah Brodeur, and she really enjoyed the program. Those interested may click here then to go to ” Police Law Academy” in the left column for an application and brochure with details.
