The Chelsea freshman football team finished the season with an 8-1 record after defeating Battle Creek Pennfield by a score of 35-8 last night.

Chelsea went up 14-0 early, and led 28-8 at the half.

Kyle Knight threw two touchdown passes to Ross Stofflet and ran for a touchdown in the game. Riley Sumner had a 7-yard touchdown run and Mitch Reynolds scored from five-yards out. Zach Wotta had 60 yards from scrimmage.

Defensively, Aidan Boote, Garrett Steele, and Ethan Dunahoo all had interceptions. Mark Rein, Jack Kraus, Daniel Golding, Gabe Vowles, and Steele were the leading tacklers for the Bulldogs.

“Practice was much less intense this week,” said coach Dennis Strzyzewski, who added, “We wanted to just have fun this last week. I was a little worried that the lack of intensity would carry over into the game, but our kids got themselves ready to play hard.”

He said, “This has been a really enjoyable year. I hope every single one of these kids comes back to play next year. They know that they are part of something that is bigger than themselves, and they really do play for each other.”

Coach French and I have been blessed to be able to coach so many great kids over the years, he said. “I have enjoyed my time with this group as much as any I have had. I can’t wait to watch them all play in a couple of years when the records really count.”
