Reddeman Farms Golf Course was filled with almost 100 golfers Friday morning for the 23nd annual Bo Skelton Chelsea Athletic Boosters scramble.

Administrators, coaches, teachers, volunteers, parents, alumni and friends converged on the Lima Township golf course for a day of fun, which benefits student athletes on about 20 high school and middle school teams.

Jim Zynda, president of the athletic Boosters said the golf outing is the group’s largest fundraiser of the year and raises about $10,000. Each sport gets a percentage of the profits.

During the last three years, Zynda said, the boosters have raised nearly one-quarter of a million dollars and have used the money to fund items such as new football helmets and uniforms for other teams and enhanced the athletic campus infrastructure with a new concession stand and a shed. Plus, the Athletic Boosters have helped to fund second teams on the middle school level to name a few of their projects.

The boosters also can be seen parking cars during the Chelsea Community Fair during which about 300 volunteers lend a hand. They man concession booths at many of the sporting events and provide the muscle for an annual scrap metal drive fundraiser.

“All revenue goes back to the student-athletes and the teams,” Zynda said.

Superintend of Schools Andy Ingall, Athletic Director and head football coach Brad Bush and Chelsea HIgh School Principal Mike Kapolka pose for a photo before heading out on the golf course.
