Two undefeated football teams squared off on Sept. 25 as Adrian came to Chelsea in an intense SEC battle where the JV Bulldogs dominated play and beat the Maples 30-18.

After the Chelsea defense forced an Adrian punt attempt after 3 plays, Cole Septer tackled the Maple’s punter on his 13-yard line. One play later, Cal Barrett scored to put Chelsea on top 7-0. Adrian scored on its next drive to cut the lead to 7-6, but Barrett scored again on an 18-yard run early in the 2nd quarter to push the lead to 14-6. Septer forced a fumble that was recovered by Callum Krause to set up the Chelsea offense again, but Chris Roush barely missed a 40-yard field goal.

After another 3 and out, a bad Adrian punt set the Bulldogs up on the 25 yard line. Barrett scored his 3rd TD of the night on an 11-yard blast. The Maples answered on their next drive to make the score 20-12 late in the 2nd quarter. Chelsea used its 2-minute offense to march 47 yards in under a minute. QB Drew Anstead was 4-5 on the drive. Chris Roush hit a 28-yard field goal to end the half with a 23-12 lead for Chelsea.

The Bulldogs took the opening drive of the 2nd half straight down the field for their final TD on an Anstead sneak. Throughout the evening, the offense did whatever it wanted led by the fine play of Preston Ewald, Patrick Conlin, Nick Whitesall, Ryan Berry, Harrison Greene, and Mikal Nelson on the offensive line.

The Chelsea JV will host Ypsilanti Lincoln for its final home game Thursday night.
