Jan. 16: Kiwanis Club to hear from Michigan Broadband Cooperative representatives

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

Last Monday, the Kiwanis Club had a visit from Dee Hudson, governor of the Michigan District of Kiwanis. She is from the Caledonia club near Grand Rapids.  Her purpose was to induct the newest member of Chelsea Kiwanis, Nancy Memmer. After the induction, she outlined some of her ideas for the future and fielded questions from the audience.

She was joined by the Governor Elect Marian O’Higgins, from the Detroit Club #1, the first Kiwanis Club, which is 102 years old this month.

This Monday, the club will hear from Ben Fineman and Gary Munce from the Michigan Broadband Cooperative. Western Washtenaw and surrounding communities are faced with a critical lack of Internet access. They will outline the current situation and highlight the efforts that are underway to address the situation.

The cooperative is a community effort driven by the citizens of Washtenaw and Jackson County to deliver broadband to the unserved and underserved folks in the area.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
