Children of all ages are invited to bowl for free with a firefighter during the 2nd Annual Chelsea Area firefighters Bowling Bash on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 2-4 p.m. at Chelsea Lanes.

The firefighters are asking participating families to donate clothing or canned goods for Chelsea families in need. And, the first 30 families to make a clothing donation will receive a special collectible Teddy Bear from the Chelsea Teddy Bear Factory.

New or gently used clothing for adults or children are requested and will be distributed to families in need at both North and South Elementary schools said Fire Lt. Scott Basar.

In addition to all the firefighters, Chief Jim Payeur is also expected to be at the event, so children can not only meet their local heroes but also the Chelsea fire chief. Bring your camera and take your child’s picture with him. Or with any of the firefighters.

“We’ve always had a good relationship with the firefighters,” said Ed Greenleaf, owner of Chelsea Lanes. “We understand what community means to our businesses and our families.”

He said last year, the first time for the event, “the lanes were packed” with children.

In addition, cash donations will also be accepted and they will be donated to the Chelsea United Way. Greenleaf is this year’s honorary chairman for the United Way fundraising campaign.

Canned goods and any surplus clothing will be donated to Faith in Action.

“The Teddy Bear Company is honored to be asked to be a part of this event,” said Murphy Payeur, who works at the Teddy Bear Factory.

The adorable give-away Teddy Bears are wearing a special T-shirt that commemorates this special community event.

Food, pop and snacks will be available for sale at Chelsea Lanes as well.
