As part of its annual meeting on Jan. 28, the Western Washtenaw Democrats will host Scott Menzel, superintendent of the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD).

The meeting, which will take place at The Chelsea Depot, 125 Jackson St., is open to everyone and begins at 6 p.m.

Menzel will discuss the sales tax increase ballot proposal on the May ballot and its impact on school funding, along with the potential annexation of Whitmore Lake Public Schools by Dexter Community Schools.

Menzel became superintendent of Washtenaw Intermediate School District on July 1, 2011.  Prior to that, he spent four years as superintendent of the Livingston Education Service Agency and five years as superintendent of Whitmore Lake Public Schools, giving him unique insight into the implications of annexation, including possible benefits to students, employees, and the communities of both districts.

In addition to the speaker, the Western Washtenaw Democrats will elect the group’s executive board.
