Honest Jon Van Hoek gave a fascinating talk about the Chelsea Monitor Base Ball Team and about early base ball and the growing popularity of the vintage game played today.  He also talked about plans for the all-day Ironclad Vintage Base Ball Festival at Chelsea High School on July 18.

In celebration of Chelsea Kiwanis Club‘s 90th anniversary and Kiwanis’s 100th anniversary, we have installed a couple pieces of playground equipment in Pierce Park. They are both musical instruments in the shape of well-known creatures.  We hope the park attendees will have fun and possibly be inspired to make some music.

On Monday, July 13, Lisa Nickel, Director of Special Education and Early Childhood at Chelsea Schools will be the guest speaker. She will speak about the program she and her staff use to get children off to the right start in school.

In past years, our club has provided money for scholarships for families in need to attend the early education classes, and will continue this year to fund the program in any way that best fits the program’s needs.

The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.  Everyone is invited to the meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
