The Wednesday Bushel Basket Farmers Market offers folks a mid-week opportunity to shop for fresh and local products at the Palmer parking lot from 2-6 p.m.

Here’s a feature on Golden Fleece Farm.

Practitioner and retired teacher, Brett and Barb Seabury, are owners of the Golden Fleece Farm. For seven years as full-time farmers, they grow cattle, lamb, and chickens, while selling at the Bushel Basket Farmers Market every Wednesday.

Their biggest challenge is working through the winter, going outdoors in the windchill and dealing with temperatures below zero degrees to feed and take care of the animals. Despite struggling through the winter season, their goal is to raise the importance of good quality food in order to help sustain the community.

They were not born into farm families, however they had a love and passion to be outside working with animals. At first, farming was only a part-time activity they wanted their children to experience. Yet, they ended up raising turkeys, sheep, goats, geese, ducks and even a Suri llama.

Settling at Sharon Short Hills, their 155-acre farm is what keeps them moving. Brett clarifies, “it’s not a job, it’s an allocation.”

While working on a farm best fitted for pasture, they are open for visitors to stop by and check out the animals. They enjoy managing their cow-calf herd while people who come by, enjoy their company.  “You should come out and we’ll take you out to the herd …. sometimes they come up and lick you,” Brett confesses.

Overall, the Seabury’s love farming and talking to people, and they always do it with a heart of gold.
