This week, Chelsea Area Festivals and Events kicks off the Sounds and Sights Festival with its weekly concert series, Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights, presented by Golling Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Chelsea.

Professional artists perform from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at 10 staged areas located throughout downtown Chelsea featuring free music, interactive art and family entertainment.

The diverse music lineup of Sounds and Sights on Thursday Night includes Coconut Radio on the library lawn, Lisa Ritchie at East Ally, and Anthony Lai Band on East Middle Street.

At the Clocktower and Glazier building, you will find the Sounds and Sights Chalk Cube and an Andrews Sisters tribute act called ABC Sisters. Peter and Ralph Duo perform at the Sylvan Courtyard, and Strings and Things will be at the Clocktower Gazebo.

There is something for everyone, including Eric the Juggler, balloon animals by Three Generations Twisters, and spray-paint artist Grant Willis Space Art.

In addition to the free stages located throughout downtown, the Sounds & Sights Festival showcases a main stage inside the social tent located behind The Common Grill restaurant.

The social tent opens at 6 p.m., with live bands performing from 7-11 p.m. Beer and wine will be for sale to those aged 21 and over. Admission to the social tent is $5 and all ages are welcome.

In addition to many local sponsors including The City of Chelsea DDA, Chelsea State Bank, “Jiffy” Mixes and Rick Taylor Real Estate, proceeds from the social tent help fund the summer long “Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights” concert series.

Thursday is billed as ‘Chelsea Spotlight’ and features three bands with Chelsea connections. Opening at 7pm is Jake Prince Trio, an alternative band that mixes elements of classic and modern indie rock. At 7:40 p.m. The Moxie Strings take the stage performing an electrifying combination of feel-good melodies and rock-influenced rhythms. Ben Daniels Band headlines Thursday night performing Americana, blues, jazz and rock. With five CDs under their belt, Ben Daniels Band has toured notable venues throughout Michigan, New York City, Washington D.C. and Nashville.
