One of the most popular features of the Sounds and Sights Festival is the KidZone, sponsored by Robin Hill Farms and Kimber Zatkovich of Reinhart Realtors. The special area offers activities for children of all ages on both Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located behind the Clocktower complex.

Kids enjoy free bounce houses, children’s entertainers, small animals, sporting activities, and more.

On Friday, July 29, the festivities kick off with ATA Martial Arts instructors and students demonstrating safety and Taekwondo skills from 10 to 11 a.m.

Next, Eddy Discovery Center presents “Pets in Jars,” which teaches children how to appreciate and care for the small critters of Waterloo such as salamanders, millipedes, insects, frogs and turtles.

At noon, Cirque Amongus hosts an interactive workshop where kids can practice the tricks of acrobats, clowns, and magicians. After that the professionals of Cirque Amongus perform a spectacular 45-minute show, which includes juggling, unicycles, and magic tricks.

On Saturday, July 30 pets can participate in the annual Pet Parade.  The theme this year, “Good Paws”, and celebrates the people and organizations that do good for the world.  Dress pets to support your favorite cause or as a scientist, fire fighter, police office, or other community hero. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Chelsea Farmers Supply, located across from the Chelsea Train Depot, and the parade begins at 10 a.m.

For more information on the pet parade call 475-1777.

Under the KidZone tent at 11 a.m., comedian-magician Chris Linn performs one of his renowned shows, “Cool Tricks and Funny Stuff Magic”.  The show features lots of age appropriate humor, amazing magical moments, and plenty of exciting audience participation to fill the audience with smiles. The unique props and Chris’ zany personality will guarantee this will be the most talked about program of the summer.

Local favorite, Colors the Clown, returns to the KidZone stage from noon to 1 p.m. with colorful magic and enchanting animals.

In addition to the stage performers, the KidZone is filled with activities for kids of all ages, including:  bounce houses, Chelsea Area Fire Authority demonstrations, Ceramics Clayland, Salon Rushelle’s hair chalking, and the Chelsea Lanes portable bowling alley.

Robin Hills Farm will be on site with a small petting zoo of farm animals. And Chelsea Children’s Co-op Preschool will host its traditional duck pond.

New this year, the Sport Zone will host a cornhole tournament from 2-3 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. There will also be soccer, football and basketball games along with a life-size Plinko game.
