June 22: Mary Stewart of Warm the Children to speak at Chelsea Kiwanis Club

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

On Monday, June 22, The Chelsea Kiwanis Club speaker will be Mary Stewart from the local Warm the Children project.

Warm the Children is a national program to provide winter clothing and footwear to needy children in our area.  In the last 20 years, more than 29,000 children in Washtenaw and Livingston counties have benefited from the program.  Stewart coordinates the volunteer personal shoppers who accompany each family during their shopping trip.

Our club members have been fortunate to be personal shoppers for many years.

Next week, Bob Milbrodt will represent the Chelsea club at the Kiwanis International Convention in Indianapolis. Kiwanis International is celebrating its 100th year serving children.  Started in Detroit in 1915, Kiwanis now has over 600,000 members in more than 80 countries.

The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.  Everyone is invited to the meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
