Letter to the Editor: Vote Yes on Chelsea Schools sinking fund millage

Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce logoDear Editor:
At their March 17, 2016 meeting, the Board of Directors of the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce (CACC) unanimously voted to support the Chelsea School District Sinking Fund Millage Renewal Proposal.

This proposal will be on the May 3, 2016 ballot. The CACC encourages everyone to go to the polls on that day and to vote Yes for the Chelsea School District Sinking Fund Millage Renewal Proposal.

This proposal is a renewal of the existing sinking fund millage. The proposal for renewal is at the current tax rate and does not represent a tax rate increase. This proposal will extend the current sinking fund for 10 years.

For close to 40 years, the voters in Chelsea have supported the sinking fund millage as a vehicle to maintain our school buildings and grounds. The sinking fund provides our school district with the money to repair, replace and update the physical structures on all campuses without using dollars from the general education fund.

The CACC understands that a strong school district is an essential asset that is necessary to attract and retain businesses and families in our city. Our Chelsea schools are recognized as a premier district in the state and country. We are certain that by providing reasonable funding options for the CSD, our schools will maintain their competitive edge into the future.

The CACC encourages you to vote Yes for the WISD Special Education Millage Renewal proposal on May 3rd.

Sincerely,
Ian Boone
President
Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce
