“We were able to take the girls team to Mason Invitational to gain big meet experience, which is important as we gear up for the final month of championship meets,” said coach Loren Thorburn.
“With this team being a young squad, we managed the meet well and made technical improvements. Also, there were a number of athletes who achieved personal records (PRs). The team placed 5th out of 14 teams in a competitive field,” he said.

Highlights:
Discus: Lily Francisco placed 6th with a throw of 94′ 7″, a new PR.
Shot: Rachel Valek placed 6th and Lily Francisco placed 7th each had a throw of 30′ 11″.
4x800m Relay: the team of Allison Hughes, Jacqueline Taylor, Kyle Bragg, and Alyssa Allen placed 6th with a time of 10:45.91.
100m Hurdles: Hannah Almhiemid placed 2nd with a time of 16.41.
4x200m Relay: the team of Sydney Matusik, Kaehla Manly, Hannah Almhiemid, Emily Morales placed 2nd with a time of 1:52.57.
400m dash: Sydney Matusik placed 4th with a time of 63.95.
300m Hurdles: Hannah Almhiemid placed 2nd (50.90), Kaehla Manly (51.63), and Laney Miller (51.90).
3200m run: Karana Wickens placed 5th with a time of 11:40.03.
4x400m Relay: the team of Kaehla Manly, Sydney Matusik, Laney Miller, and Ailish Joyce placed 2nd with a time of 4:20.59.
Notable PRs: In the 800m run, Jacqueline Taylor and Kyle Bragg ran hard and obtained new seasonal PRs (2:39.85 and 2:44.39, respectively), Ailish Joyce ran a hard in the 400m dash and achieved a 66.69, Jad Gerweck in 100m (14.44) and 200m dash (29.2) had a good showing in the sprints, and Allison Hughes ran a great race in the 3200m run with a time of 11:54.38.
“We are looking forward to a competitive week starting off with the Dexter and Lincoln meet on today at Dexter, and the Stockbridge Invitational on Friday, May 6,” the coach said.
