(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

This Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will hear from Jesse Kauffman, director of SRSLY Coalition.

SRSLY is a community coalition established to prevent destructive behavior in Chelsea youth. SRSLY provides information and support, builds skills, and works to decrease chances that young people will make poor choices.

Last Monday, Jon Tulman gave a thorough presentation of all the services provided by the county Water Resource Commissioner’s Office. He encouraged everyone to use the office’s services, which include solid waste and home toxins recycling. The program accepts many items unsuitable for the regular trash, like paint, fertilizers, and other chemicals.

Located on Zeeb Road just north of I-94, the operation uses no tax dollars.  Another program offered by the office is rain gardens, where experts help you design a garden that can capture 60,000 gallons of water (1 inch of rainfall), and prevent runoff into streams.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
