March 23-24: Ballet Chelsea presents Coppélia

Ballet Chelsea is pleased to invite you to its premiere performance of Coppélia on March 23-24 in the Performance Arts Complex at Chelsea High School.

Audiences of all ages will enjoy this family-friendly, comic tale brought to life through dance and music. Coppélia will be performed on March 23 at 7 p.m. and on March 24 at 2 p.m.

Coppélia is a comic ballet which premiered in Paris in 1870. The ballet was originally choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon to the music of Leo Delibes, and is based on two stories by E.T.A Hoffman, who also wrote The Nutcracker and The Mouse King.

The story takes place in a small European town as a group of villagers prepare for the Harvest Festival, and tells of the beautiful Swanhilda, her beloved Franz, and their discovery of Dr. Coppélius’ mysterious shop of dolls and toys.

Coppélia is a light-hearted musical journey for music and dance lovers alike and is appropriate for all ages.

If you enjoy The Nutcracker, don’t miss Coppélia.

Tickets are available online at www.balletchelsea.org, in person at Ballet Chelsea during studio hours at 1050 S. Main St. and at the door at the performances.
