Many young pirates are headed to Chelsea this month for the Chelsea Area Players Youth Theater (CAP, Jr.) production of The Pirate Show by Mark Landon Smith.
Performances will be held on March 24 and March 25 at 7 p.m. and on March 26 at 3:00 p.m. in the George Prinzing Auditorium inside the Senior Center.
The third through eighth grade students who are participating in this spring’s play are creative kids who are looking forward to bringing their talents to the stage, and CAP, Jr. is a perfect place for these kids to express themselves.
This year, The Pirate Show directed by Alex Moore and produced by Shelley Wheaton is bringing many actors together whether they are new to the stage or old hands.
“I feel at home on stage,” says Charles Korner who has been a part of 10 plays in the past, and this year plays the role of Captain Alberto Roughnight. He also enjoys being able to shape his character. “You can do what you want with your part.”
Tigerlily Bradley, playing the role of Captain Mad Sophie, says, “It’s [CAP Jr.] helped me develop a lot as an actor and I’ve definitely seen my progress through the years.” She’s also been in many prior productions such as Shakespeare Goes to Gravel Gulch and Alice in Wonderland.
Actors and actresses in The Pirate Show had a lot to say about why they auditioned and their favorite parts of this spring’s show. Some kids said that making new friends was the best part about CAP Jr. Others said that acting on stage and wearing cool costumes was their favorite aspect of The Pirate Show.
CAP, Jr. offers a great opportunity for younger students to find their voice and discover what it is they’re passionate about. Long rehearsals during the week, combined with homework, family time, and other activities like sports can lead to a very busy schedule, but according to most of these hardworking elementary and middle school students, the show is definitely worth it in the end.
What kid wouldn’t want to dress up as a pirate and ride on a pirate ship? In all cases these kids definitely enjoy the spotlight. They’re working hard to get used to their sea legs and to make the show great. General admission tickets are available now for $10 at Hometown Pharmacy.
