Marcus Kaemming‘s time as principal of North Creek Elementary School ends today and Luman Strong, the former assistant principal of Chelsea High School, will begin as the new principal on July 1.

Kaemming’s new official title is Executive Director of the Chelsea School District, but what does that mean?

“My role will support Instruction, Curriculum, Human Resources and Community Education,” explained Kaemming. “The timing was right as my staff is awesome.”

“North Creek’s success is based on the relationships and efforts of the whole team, students, parents and staff. I can leave because this team is so strong and I’m ready for this new challenge,” he said.

When asked what he will miss most about working at North Creek, Kaemming said he can’t choose just one thing.

“I love the kids, parents and the staff. They are my family so it’ll feel a little like moving away from home,” he said. “I was blessed with one of the best teams in the world! The great news is I have not moved far from my family.”

Thank you letter to the community from Marcus Kaemming
”It’s been over 12 years since Lisa and I decided to leave our home and community near Ludington to move to this little town named Chelsea.  We knew it was quaint. We knew it had just transitioned from a village to a city so it felt like it was growing.

We also knew of some of the landmarks, the Purple Rose, Jiffy and the Common Grill. The things we didn’t know were far more important. This community is founded on great people. Lisa and I found out about the excellent schools and the communities all-in attitude and nature.

We were greeted by a member of the Chamber of Commerce who helped us understand how awesome this place was. At work, I met a great staff. They thrived on growth and pushing each other to be the best they can be for kids.

Miss Becky and Miss Lana instantly made me feel welcome. They helped acclimate me and as Becky would tell you … train me. She was right. Thanks to both of them for the constant support they gave me. Mrs. O’Hara has stepped in to do the same.

I am thankful because for 12 years, the school community has been awesome.  They have treated me with respect and helped our community solve the North Creek issues together. I love the families, including and most importantly, the students of North.

I will miss seeing them on a regular basis. North Creek is so fortunate to have Dr. Strong stepping into this principalship. He will love and lead you to the next level. I am sure he will bond with the staff and the early childhood family as I have. These students have definitely epitomized the phase … Be MORE Awesome.

I couldn’t have done this without Mr. Killips taking a chance a relatively inexperienced principal. It goes without saying, but knowing you are supported is outstanding.

He saw something in a small town boy that allowed me to grow into this principalship. At times, my own personality and the North Creek personality were blended. Thanks to Dave for supporting this growth.

There are other administrators that have helped with this growth. Thanks to Mr. Ingall, Mrs. Corbett, Mr. Bollman, Mrs. Deppner, Mr. Lewis-Lakin, Mr. Mead, Mrs. Steiber and Mr. Woodhams for supporting me in this principalship.

While they are all in different chapters of their lives, I am thankful for their time in Chelsea and for the support they showed me.

Finally, I am so excited about my next change in the CSD and the support of the administration team, School Board and Dr. Helber.  There are great things on the horizon for the CSD.  Watch us.

Thanks for allowing me to say thanks … As I have said for 12 years, “Once a North Creeker, ALWAYS a North Creeker!” This saying means more to me now than ever.

Enjoy your summer.”

  1. Congratulations, Marcus! Although I live in Traverse City now, I will never forget what a fine person, teacher and awesome Kiwanian you are. Take your new position and take the Chelsea School District off the charts and over the top! All the best to you!
