The Monitor Base Ball Club of Chelsea was given City Council approval for its use of Timbertown for four base ball matches in 2015.

The vintage base ball club will play on Sunday, May 17, Sunday, June 7, Saturday, June 20 and Saturday, Aug. 29 in the back corner of the park off Sibley Road. The matches typically begin at either 1 or 2 p.m. and are free.

The team is entering its fifth season and has now been joined by a sister club called the Merrimack BBC or the Merries, who will begin their second season.

In addition, according to information provided to the City Council by Jon Van Hoek, the two clubs will cohost a “day-long 1860’s base ball festival, featuring more than 12 clubs from Michigan and Ohio.”

Called the “Ironclad Vintage Base Ball Festival,” it will take place at Chelsea High School and will also be free and open to everyone.

The team will also make two trips to Greenfield Village, a trip to Mackinac Island and to Columbus, Ohio, to participate in the Ohio Cup.
