Dave Bennett and the Dave Bennett Jazz Quartet will appear on May 17 at Chelsea First United Methodist Church, 128 Park St., at 4 p.m.

The performance is part of the Concert Series initiated by Director of Music Ministries, Kyle Webber.

Dave Bennett resides in Waterford, Michigan.  He has traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, and Europe, his clarinet playing blending the styles of his two idols, Benny Goodman and Pete Fountain.  His penchant for wire-rim glasses, spats and classic suits transport listeners back to the time and mood of the “swing era”.

As featured soloist, Dave Bennett has performed with The Count Basie Orchestra, The New York Pops and over 30 additional orchestras.  He has released several CDs.  He has developed a fan base partially through his performances at “swing dance” competitions around the country.  His remarkable and unique musical gifts have received widespread top-notch critical acclaim.

Selections such as Moonglow, I Got Rhythm, Sing Sing Sing, Airmail Special, Poor Butterfly, and Let’s Dance are among the Benny Goodman hits commonly found on Dave Bennett’s programs.  Joining him will be Doug Cobb, percussion; Tod Weed, piano; and Kurt Krahmke, string bass.
