(Chelsea Update would like to thank Jackie Montalvo for the information and photos in this story.)

Megan Heydlauff is a 17-year-old junior at Chelsea High School, who has been a Girl Scout since the third grade.

Heydlauff has achieved her gold award, which is the highest honor in the Girl Scouts, and she chose “self-defense” as her topic. She feels that “just because it hasn’t happened in your town doesn’t mean it won’t happen.”

Heydlauff encourages all of her peers (male and female) to take action and learn basic skills in self-defense and is offering a free self-defense class at Anytime Fitness in Chelsea on June 7 from 6-7:30 pm. The self-defense class will be sponsored by Jackie Montalvo Level 5 Commando Krav Maga instructor.

You can sign up on Megan’s Facebook page “Chelsea Michigan Teen Self Defense”.

And, if you see her around town, please take the time to congratulate her for achieving the gold award, which is an amazing accomplishment.
