Miss Washtenaw County applications being accepted

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Laura Bloomensaat for the information in this story.)

Applications are now being accepted for the 22nd annual Miss Washtenaw County Scholarship Pageant and Miss Washtenaw’s Outstanding Teen Pageant.

The Miss Washtenaw County Program is a Miss America Local Preliminary pageant for young women in this area. It will be held on Saturday Oct. 8, at the Washington Street Education Center in Chelsea.

The Miss Pageant is open to young women between the ages of 17 and 24 that reside, are a full-time student, or employed full-time in Washtenaw and Livingston Counties. The teen pageant is open to teens between the ages of 13-16. There are no residency requirements for teens.

New to the program this year is a Princess Club for girls between the ages of 5-12.  Princesses will be featured on stage during the pageant and participate in a community service project and a parade during the year.
Established in 1995, the Miss Washtenaw County Scholarship Organization provides opportunities for young women to achieve their personal and professional goals.

Title holders also participate in community service activities and develop leadership skills that help them excel in their chosen career and life goals.  A not-for-profit affiliate of the Miss America Organization, the Miss Washtenaw County Scholarship Program has made available more than $200,000 in scholarships and in kind funds to hundreds of young women throughout the area.

Winners of the annual competition will represent the area at the Miss Michigan and Miss Michigan’s Outstanding Teen Pageants held next June in Muskegon.
