Hoping to make the transition from summer to elementary school a little bit easier, North Creek Elementary School’s new Principal Luman Strong held a “Meet the New Principal Night” on Thursday, Aug. 18 at Pierce Park.
The former Chelsea High School assistant principal says that he has big shoes to fill in taking the place of Marcus Kaemming, who spent 12 years in the job and is now the Executive Director of the Chelsea School District.
“I want to make sure North Creek families feel comfortable with me before the school year starts, and what better place to do it,” said Strong, referring to the park on a beautiful summer evening.
Many of the families who came have children going into kindergarten.
Greta Wisely, who will be a kindergartner, said that she is looking forward to “free choice, when you get to play with anything you want.”
Elise Seyferth said, “I like art class.”
“Elise wishes school started tomorrow,” said her mom, Anne Seyferth, who came to Pierce Park to get familiar with people Elise will be in school with.
Parent Kasie Cousino told Strong that she’s a little nervous about her daughter taking the school bus. Daughter Avery meanwhile said that she’s excited about starting school, especially going to the library.
Strong reminded families that there is an open house at North Creek Aug. 30, which will help everyone learn what they’ll be doing the first day of school.
“The first day is a big step,” said Strong. “Once you get through the first day jitters, you’ll be off and running.”
Mr. Strong is a leader in the community. I am glad he will play a role in educating the children in our community.
