The Chelsea Kiwanis Club will honor the sacrifice of our veterans on Monday, Memorial Day.
The group will not meet but encourage everyone to remember the sacrifice of our veterans, past and present.
On Wednesday, May 27, Kiwanis Club members will be celebrating students at South Meadows Elementary School who have improved their grades over the school year.
The program is called Bring Up Grades (BUG). From 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m., students who have met the requirements of the BUG program will be treated to a special lunch and will receive a certificate.
Let’s keep in mind that Memorial Day is not about our veterans-
we have our own day in November. Memorial Day is for the remembrance
of our war dead, who “gave their lives that that nation might
live.” (see link)
So don’t congratulate a veteran on Memorial Day. We know we’re
the lucky ones. A more appropriate question might be to ask if
there is anyone in particular they wish to be remembered. For me,
I remember these four shipmates killed in action during the summer
of 1967:
CDR Larry Dion
LCDR Tom Siteck
LTJG Charlie Hom
ENS Pat Ness
Rod Anderson
CAPT USNR-Ret
