Allen Cole spoke to the Kiwanis Club last Monday about a new phone app that he is making available to folks in Chelsea at no charge. It is for emergencies and alerts 911 and loved ones with your location, and has first aid instructions among other features.

He demonstrated a new phone app that will notify 911 or another contact with one touch.  It will also give your location to responders, tips for first aid, a place to list providers and medical conditions.

The app is available on Google Play or iTunes. Using the last 4 digits of Cole’s phone number (1551), you can get the app for free.

This Monday, the club will hear from Jim Randolph, Kiwanis president and past president of Chelsea Senior Center who will speak about the Kiwanis Children’s Fund. Started in 1939, the fund got its first donation from Walter Zeller of 25 Canadian silver dollars. Zeller was a Kiwanian and owned a chain of thrift stores under his name in Canada. The coins were auctioned off for $625 in Detroit at Kiwanis’ 25th anniversary celebration. The fund is now a multi-million dollar organization that awards grants underwriting life-altering worldwide service projects.

The Kiwanis 41st Annual Fruit Sale is now underway. The club pre-sells navel oranges, red grapefruit, and tangelos for the next 5 weeks. They are picked, sorted by size, and driven straight from Florida the first week of December.

This fruit is fresher than can be found in the grocery store and lasts in a cool place for 2-3 months.

You can order from any Kiwanian or stop in Chelsea State Bank, Heydlauff’s, or Palmer Auto Service to place an order.

Please join in on this healthful citrus sale, which also benefits Chelsea groups who receive support from the Kiwanis Club.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
