On Nov. 27, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club is celebrating Don Cole’s 40th year in the Kiwanis club. He is a past president of the club, served on the board of directors for many years, and is a font of wisdom for club members.

Cole is well known as an inspiration to others to pursue community service, and has brought many members into the club over the years, including me in 1993.

In addition, the club is in the midst of its 42nd Annual Fruit Sale.

The club is offering Navel oranges for $40 a case (4/5 bushel), Red grapefruit, and Tangelos for $35 a case. Half cases are $25-oranges, $20-grapefruit and tangelos. The club has been using the same supplier for more than 30 years, and they guarantee satisfaction.

Fruit may be ordered with any Kiwanian, at Chelsea State Bank – 475-1355, Heydlauff’s – 475-1221, Palmer Auto Service – 475-1301, or leave your order on our website – www.kiwanisclubofchelsea.org.

It is our second biggest fundraiser after our food concession trailer.  Fresh citrus from Florida is a healthful food choice in these days when we hear about all the foods that are bad for us. With the exception of grapefruit counteracting some medicine, citrus fruit has never been on an unhealthy list.

Don’t hesitate to buy in quantity because it stays good to eat for several weeks if kept between 32 and 40 degrees.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m. Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
