(Chelsea Update would like to thank Rick DeTroyer for the information in this story.)
Calling all artists. You are invited to a special unveiling of an art piece created by Karen Smith on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. at the new studio of local artist Rick DeTroyer.
The studio is in the old Heller Electric building behind Thompson’s Pizza.
As some of you may know, glass artist Karen Smith worked on the “Quilt” project that is in the McKinley Clock Tower. What some of you may not know is that the piece was never completed. It has no signage or background information.
Although Chelsea no longer has an art center, we still have a very exceptional group of artists in this area. Smith is one that comes to mind. She worked with me and others on the “Quilt” (found object of the people in Chelsea placed in the McKinley common area back in 2006). As part of the design, stainless steel arches and a slumped piece of glass were to be added. They are now on display at DeTroyer’s new studio.
He hopes that local artists will come together and see his new studio and talk about the future of art in Chelsea while honoring Smith’s outstanding work, showing her that her work lives on in a new setting.
Thanks so much. Very nice….
God Bless Rick DeTroyer !!!
