The Saturday Chelsea Farmers Market will be offered year- round on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with many summer vendors returning for the winter season.

From Nov. 5 through April 22, the winter market will move to the Washington Street Education Center, located at 500 Washington St.

The farmers market is a program of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea. It is sponsored by the hospital and The Chelsea Friends and Family Wellness Foundation, and is a member of the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce and The Five Healthy Towns.

“The farmers market is such a wonderful event for our community and provides people with the nutritional resources and information they need to make healthy choices,” said Nancy Graebner, president and CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea.  “We’re humbled to have such great support within the community and hope our friends and neighbors continue to find value in the healthy food options made available to them.”

Many of the community’s favorite summer vendors will continue to sell their products during the winter season. Visitors can expect to find vegetables, apples, honey, bread and other baked goods, jewelry, soap, seasonal crafts, meat, jam, maple syrup and a number of artisan products.

The Chelsea Farmers Market will also continue to participate in food assistance programs.  These programs include:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – Nutrition assistance to eligible, low-income individuals and families.
  • Prescription for Health – Program that connects patients to their local farmers market by allowing health care providers to write “prescriptions” for their patients to eat more fruits and vegetables that can  be redeemed  for produce at the farmers market.
  • WIC Project Fresh – A program that makes fresh produce available to low-income, nutritionally-at-risk women and children, through Michigan farmers markets.
  • Senior Project Fresh – Program that provides eligible older adults with unprocessed, Michigan-grown products from authorized farmers markets and roadside stands throughout Michigan.
  • Double Up Food Bucks – Program doubles the value of federal nutrition assistance spent at participating markets and grocery stores, helping people bring home more locally grown fruits and vegetables.
