Nov. 6: Chelsea Kiwanis to host Service Recognition Dinner

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

On Monday, Nov. 6, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will host its Service Recognition Dinner, honoring their Kiwanis family of clubs for their work to benefit the community.

Chelsea and Dexter Key Clubs, U of M Circle K Club,  and St. Louis Center’s Aktion Club are invited.

Last week, Kathy Hay, representing Fisher House Michigan, said she was able to see her son at the VA hospital while he was treated because she lives in the area. Unfortunately, most veterans go days with no visits because their families live far away.

After losing her son, she became a passionate advocate for Fisher House, where families can stay for no charge near their loved one. The first Fisher House in Michigan will begin construction in the next few months on the VA campus. To honor our local veterans, Fisher House has organized Stories of Service at Hill Auditorium on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m., to hear their experiences defending  our country. Admission is free.

Many costumed characters appeared at Cole Funeral Home on Halloween to show off their creativity, and enjoyed cider, doughnuts, peanuts, pretzels, and chips despite the cold temperatures.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m. Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
