One World One Family plans trip to U-M Museum, library discussion of ‘Race, Are We Really So Different?’

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Joanne Ladio for the information in this story.)

One World One Family is planning a trip to the University of Michigan Museum of Natural History exhibit “Race, Are We Really So Different?” on Sunday, April 21.

Anyone interested can meet at the Chelsea District Library parking lot at 12:30 p.m. and rideshare if they’d like to carpool.

“Of course, you don’t have to go then,” says Joanne Ladio, “The exhibit is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday thru Saturday and from noon-5 p.m. on Sundays, and will end in May.”

A small group, led by Kathie Gourlay (OWOF and Canopus), is organizing a Chelsea discussion of this exhibit, Ladio says.

“Two facilitators from U-M, who have been trained to lead discussions, will be there to enhance our talk. The facilitator pairs represent at least two different racial and ethnic identities and have been trained with the “Understanding Race Project” to facilitate dialogues on race with a focus on the exhibit,” Ladio says.

The discussion is planned for Tuesday, April 23 in the McKune Room of the library from 6:30-8 p.m.

Everyone is encouraged to go see the exhibit before the discussion.
