Packed agenda at June 23 Chelsea School Board meeting

In addition to a presentation by Chelsea District Library Director Bill Harmer about an upcoming library millage vote, the Chelsea Board of Education has 11 individual items on its action item agenda and 9 items on its consent agenda.

Some of the items on the consent agenda are:

  • Approval of 10 administrator contracts through June 30, 2016
  • Requests for leave of absence for the 2014-15 school year for three teachers
  • Approval of the board meeting dates for 2014-15 for the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 6:30 p.m.
  • Two field trips — one for music students to New York City and one for varsity soccer team for camp.
  • About $49,000 for security cameras

Included on the action agenda is:

  • The designation of Chelsea State Bank as the district’s bank for about 23 different accounts.
  • Approval of those authorized to sign checks, bank notes and electronic bank transfers
  • Appointment of legal counsel
  • Setting fees for providing hard copies of board packets
  • Approval to join the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) and the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA)
  • Approval of the district’s preliminary budget
  • Approval of a debt fund amendment

Also expected is discussion of a request for the 8th grade to travel to Washington, DC, and board committees and liaison assignments

The board is also expected to go into closed session for a student discipline case as well as for Chelsea Education Association (CEA) negotiations.
