Please stay off the railroad tracks during the Sounds and Sights Festival

railroad-signalWith all the visitors expected in Chelsea for the Sounds and Sights Festival, Chelsea Police Chief Ed Toth reminds everyone not to illegally cross the railroad tracks while moving from festival area to festival area.

There are also new signs clearly reminding folks to cross at the appropriate crossing areas at all times. Please remind visitors as well should you see them trying to take a shortcut.

Over the last year, Chelsea Update, the Chelsea Police Department, the Chelsea Downtown Development Authority and Chelsea Area Festivals and Events have attempted to educate everyone about the dangers of illegally crossing the tracks.

State law prohibits walking, stopping, riding, or driving on railroad tracks. If caught, it is considered a misdemeanor and there is a $100 fine.

Railroad and Chelsea Police will be enforcing this statute to ensure public safety.

No one wants there to be a fatality on the tracks as has happened in several Michigan towns.

So please be safe, obey the law, and have a great time at the festival.
