Sign destroyed
On Dec. 18 at about 9:30 a.m., police were called to the 100 block of Madison Street for a malicious destruction of property complaint.

The victim told police that a $300 sign was damaged between Dec. 11-18 with a baseball bat or club-type object and was beyond repair, according to the police report.

At the time of the report, there were no suspects.

19-year-old Chelsea man arrested on warrant
On Dec. 12 at about 12:15 p.m., police saw a pick-up truck disregard a stop sign and stopped the vehicle in the 300 block of Washington Street.

The driver, a 19-year-old Chelsea man, was wanted on a misdemeanor bench warrant out of the Michigan State Police Brighton Post and was also currently wanted on a felony charge from Mercer County, Pennsylvania for unlawful driving.

The Michigan State Police declined to pick up on their warrant, however, Mercer County said there would extradite on their warrant, according to the police report.

The subject was placed under arrest and was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending an extradition hearing.

49-year-old Chelsea woman arrested for DUI
On Dec. 8 at about 3:55 p.m., police were called to the 1400 block of Carston Lane for a report of a suspicious vehicle that had been parked in the area for more than an hour and a half.

According to the police report, the officers located the vehicle but could not detect any movement from inside and it initially appeared to be unoccupied.

Then, a female started the car and began backing up toward the parked patrol vehicle. The officers began honking the horn in an attempt to get the 49-year-old Chelsea woman driver to stop and she stopped just short of hitting the patrol vehicle.

The driver was asked to produce her identification, which she had difficulty locating.

Although the officer was unable to detect any odor of alcohol, the driver appeared disoriented and impaired by some substance or suffering a medical condition, according to the police report.

The officer requested an ambulance and upon its arrival, the woman was escorted to the back for an evaluation. While she was inside the ambulance, police found a half full bottle of vodka partially under the driver seat.

During questioning, the woman told police that she had taken some prescription medication but was unable to tell police what kind it was. And, initially, the driver told police she had not consumed any alcohol but later said she’d had two drinks.

The woman was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

40-year-old Milan man arrested for DUI
On Dec. 6 at about 12:17 a.m., police were alerted to a vehicle driving in the area of northbound Main Street near Pierce Street on its rim, with apparent tire damage to one of the wheels.

The officers responded to the area and located a noticeable gouge in the roadway that appeared to have been caused by a tire rim. The officers followed the damage in the road for several blocks, eventually coming to a stop in the area of the 400 block of AD Mayer Drive.

The officers made contact with the vehicle and located the suspect vehicle along with the driver and a passenger.

When approached, the driver stated that he was having some trouble with his vehicle.

According to the police report, the driver was identified as a 40-year-old Milan man who was very cooperative but also very obviously intoxicated or under the influence.

After further investigation, the driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

2 Detroit men arrested

On Dec. 4 at about 4 a.m., Chelsea Police were called to the 1500 block of Commerce Park Dr. for a report of a suspicious vehicle.

The caller told people that a silver Ford Flex was parked in the parking lot for an extended period of time.

Police found the vehicle in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive where a BMW alarm was going off.

Police found two black men inside the vehicle who told police there were driving from Battle Creek to Detroit and had gotten tired so pulled off to get some sleep.

Inside the vehicle, police found burglary tools, GPS units, portable electronic devices, and clothing.

The Detroit men were arrested and taken to the police department for processing.

An inventory of the vehicle found multiple stolen items including basketball shoes, clothing and GPS units, which were determined to be from recently reported thefts in the Ann Arbor and Romulus areas.

The men were transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending further investigation and warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office.

Contents of purse stolen
On Dec. 1 at about 1:05 p.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street for a report of a purse stolen from a shopping cart.

The store manager told police he had been alerted to the theft by a resident who saw a store employee take the purse out of a shopping cart and conceal it near the cart corral area.

The manager went to the area where the purse was reportedly located and observed it laying there with all of the zippers left open.

The suspect, a 33-year-old Chelsea man, admitted to removing money from the wallet. The man told police since he had found the purse, and thought he was entitled to take the money.

The employee returned the money, was terminated, and advised that he was no longer allowed at the store.

The case remains open pending review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

45-year-old Chelsea man arrested for DUI
On Nov. 28, at about 10:40 p.m., police stopped a pickup truck in the 400 block of West Middle Street on the suspicion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

The officer smelled alcohol in the vehicle and the driver was having difficulty

locating requested documents. When the driver was asked to step out of the vehicle, he fell sideways into the side of his truck.

The driver, a 45-year-old Chelsea man, was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and after completing a blood draw to determine the driver’s blood alcohol level, he was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

Domestic assault charges authorized
On Nov. 26 at about 7:50 p.m., police were called to the 600 block of Fairways Lane for a report of a domestic disturbance.

The victim told police she arrived home from dinner with her children from a previous marriage and an argument ensued with her husband.

She told police that it began as a verbal argument and turned physical, according to the police report.

She told police her husband, a 52-year-old Chelsea man jumped onto the couch and began assaulting her, pulling her hair and threatening her, according to the police report.

The suspect was placed under arrest and was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he was held pending review by the Prosecutor’s Office.

Charges were authorized the following morning for one count of misdemeanor domestic assault and one count of felony assault with strangulation.

Traffic stop leads to arrest on drug charges
On Nov. 25 at about 11:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of South Main Street, police made a traffic stop that resulted in two Chelsea men being arrested on drug charges.

Following the stop for a defective tail light, police noticed that the occupants were acting oddly and they were asked if there were any narcotics in the vehicle, according to the police report.

The driver said there were small amounts of marijuana located in several areas of the vehicle. A search yielded several areas where suspected marijuana and paraphernalia was found, according to the police report.

The driver, a 20-year-old Chelsea man and the passenger, a 23-year-old Chelsea man were placed under arrest and transported to the Chelsea Police Department. The suspects were processed and booked on possession of marijuana charges and were released pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Possible assault on West Middle Street
Police were called to the 100 block of W. Middle Street on Nov. 20 at about 7:30 a.m. for a report of a possible assault/domestic dispute in progress.

There are no further details about possible charges, and the case remains under investigation.

Larceny on Wilkinson Street
On Nov. 20 at about 5:45 a.m., police were called to the 200 block of Wilkinson Street for a report of a larceny from a vehicle complaint.

The victim told police that sometime between 6 a.m. and 11:50 p.m. on Nov. 19, someone cut the catalytic convertor from her vehicle, which was parked in the parking lot.

No further information is available.

Domestic dispute between father and son
Police were called to the 600 block of South Main Street on Nov. 17 at about 9:15 p.m. for a report of a domestic dispute between a father and son.

Upon arrival, the officers observed the suspect, a 22-year-old Chelsea man, run out of the rear of the residence and seek shelter in a room near the garage, according to the police report.

After several requests by the officers, the suspect emerged from the room.

He was placed under arrest for domestic assault and was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he was charged with assault and battery.

He has since been arraigned.

Damage complaint filed
On Nov. 17 at about 11:15 a.m., police were called to the 500 block of South Main Street for a property damage complaint.

The victim told police the front window of the building was shot at, possibly with a BB/pellet gun in the late evening of Sunday, Nov. 13.

There is no further information available.

Welder stolen from South Main Street store
On Nov. 4 about about 8:45 a.m., police were called to the 1000 block of South Main Street for a report of retail fraud.

The victim told police that a white male entered the store and picked up a welder that was for sale and walked out of the store without paying for it.

Employees watched the suspect get into a Silver Chevrolet Trailblazer. He is described as a white male, approximately 30 years old, wearing a blue stocking cap, gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. He is of average build and about 5’10-6’0.

34-year-old Chelsea man charged with domestic assault
Chelsea police were called to the 500 block of Arthur Street on Oct. 19 at about 4:15 p.m. for a report of a domestic dispute in progress between a husband and wife.

According to the police report, the altercation took place in the front yard of the residence, and police arrested a 34-year-old Chelsea man for domestic assault.

He is accused of getting into a physical altercation with his wife and taking the female victim to the ground on several occasions, according to the police report.

The suspect was transported to the Chelsea Police Department where he was booked and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

One count of domestic assault was authorized by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office and additional charges may be filed in the future related to this incident.

iPad stolen
On Oct. 18 at about 1 p.m., police were called to the 600 block of South Main Street for a report of a stolen iPad.

The victim told police she placed the iPad on a chair while she was doing some other tasks and when she returned, it was missing.

At the time of the report, there was no suspect information or video footage

available of the incident.

Case closed pending any further investigative leads.

Harassing phone call complaint
On Oct. 4 at about 1:30 a.m., police responded to the 100 block of Silver Maples Drive about a harassing phone call complaint.

Staff told police that for several days, they had been fielding harassing phone calls and had tried to stop them but were unsuccessful.

Police contacted a suspect, a 46-year-old West Bloomfield Township man but he denied making the phone calls.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Retail fraud reported
On Oct. 5 at about 11:15 a.m., police responded to the 100 block of South Main Street for the report of a retail fraud that had occurred sometime between Oct. 2-Oct. 3.

The victim stated that an unknown suspect had taken a handbag as well as two keychains without purchasing them.

There was no further information on exactly when or who may have stolen these items.

Case closed pending any further leads.

Malicious destruction of property reported

On Oct 6 at about 3:45 p.m., police responded to the 100 block of Park Street for a malicious destruction of property complaint.

The victim told police that an unknown person had punctured the sidewall of one of the tires on his pickup truck.

A note from a witness stated that they observed a male subject in a dark Jeep Cherokee wearing a red ball cap puncture the tire.

No call was placed to the police department at the time this was witnessed; a note was left on the vehicle.

28-year-old Chelsea man arrested on felony warrant

Police arrested a 28-year-old Chelsea man on a felony drug warrant on Oct. 6 at about 5:30 p.m. in the 20000 block of W. Old US-12.

The man was arrested at his work place and taken to Washtenaw County jail pending arraignment.

49-year-old Chelsea man arrested on outstanding warrant
On Sept. 25 at about 8 p.m., police responded to a tip about the location of a Chelsea man wanted on an outstanding warrant.

They went to the 100 block of Wilkinson Street and arrested a 49-year-old Chelsea man who was wanted by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.

He was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.

Team trophy stolen
On Sept. 23 at about 3 p.m., police responded to a report of a team trophy that was stolen from the 500 block of Coliseum Dr.

The complainant told police that the theft occurred on Sept. 14 at about 11:45 p.m.

The suspect is described as a white male approximately 20 years old wearing tie dyed jeans.

The case remains open and under further investigation after review of the
surveillance footage.

Property damage reported
On Sept. 15 at about 2:20 p.m., police were called to the 1500 block of South Main Street for the report of property damage.

The victim told police the property was undergoing some maintenance and damage resembling a bullet hole was found.

The damage was believed to have occurred in the morning to early afternoon hours of Sept. 15.

The case remains under active investigation, and police are looking for any witnesses.

Lake Michigan man arrested for DUI after hitting two cars
On Sept. 14 about 2 p.m. in the 900 block of South Main Street, police were called to the scene of a possible hit and run.

Police found the driver who allegedly hit two cars and witnesses to the incident.

A 56-year-old Lake Michigan man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

‘Speed-bumps’ stolen from cemetery driveway
On Sept. 12 at about 8:30 a.m. police were called to the 100 block of Madison Street for a report of stolen items.

The victim told police four “homemade speed-bump type objects” had been stolen from the drive to the cemetery, according to the police report.

The theft was believed to have occurred sometime on Sept. 8 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and there is no further information.

Retail fraud reported on East Middle Street
On Sept. 10, at about 3:25 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of East Middle Street for the report of a retail fraud.

The victim told police that a white female wearing a teal-colored top entered the store and after a short time left the store with a scarf, two bottles of perfume and a pair of shoes.

The case remains open pending review of the video surveillance footage at the store.

Wallet stolen inside store on East Middle Street
On Sept. 10 at about 12:50 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of East Middle Street for the report of a larceny of an employee’s wallet.

The victim told police what a black female entered the store, walked around out of sight and came back, asked about an item and left the store.

Shortly after the woman left the store, the victim got a call from her bank asking if she’d used her credit card to make a large purchase in Manchester.

There was also an attempted purchase at the Wal-Mart store in Saline and that purchase was rejected by the bank.

The case remains under investigation, and a 44-year-old Pontiac woman is a suspect in the case.

License plate stolen on South Main Street
On Aug. 29 at about 10:17 a.m. Chelsea police were called to the 1600 block of South Main Street for the report of a larceny of a license plate.

The victim told police that sometime between Aug. 26-27 the plate was stolen from a vehicle in the parking lot.

At the time of the report, there was no suspect information available, and the license plate was entered into the computer system as stolen.

Suspicious activity in South Main Street parking lot
On Aug. 31 in the 1600 block of South Main Street, police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle that had been parked in the back of the parking lot for an
extended period of time.

Police found a male occupant sleeping and determined that he was wanted on a warrant from Ann Arbor Police for failure to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge. He was arrested and taken to Ann Arbor PD.

Chelsea Police also found hypodermic needles and a few packets of a powdery substance, believed to be heroin, in the vehicle. The items were turned over to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office.

Light blue man’s mountain bike stolen
On Sept. 1 at about 10:15 a.m. police took a report of a stolen bike from the 100 block of South East Street.

The victim told police that sometime in the last week, a man’s light blue mountain bike had been stolen off the front porch.

The case was closed pending any further investigative information.

Prescription fraud
On Aug. 23 at about 5 p.m., police responded to the 1100 block of South Main Street for a fraud complaint.

According to the police report, the complainant told police that a black male approximately 18-24 years of age entered the business and presented a prescription in a female’s name, which was determined to be a forgery.

The case remains open.

Power washer stolen from pick-up track
On Aug. 24 at 8:25 a.m., police were called to the 1500 Commerce Park Drive for a report of a larceny from a motor vehicle.

The victim told police he parked his vehicle in the parking lot overnight and a power washer was stolen from the back of his pick-up truck.

There is no further information available.

Property damage reported
On Aug. 24 at about 11:30 a.m. in the 100 block of South Street, police were called for a report of property damage.

The victim told police that sometime between 9:45-11:15 a.m., an unknown person broke the rear passenger window out of her vehicle.

The case was closed pending further leads.

Retail fraud
On Aug. 24 at about 10:17 p.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street for a report of retail fraud that had happened about 7:48 p.m.

The victim told people that an unknown male and female entered the store and loaded several items into a shopping cart. They left the store without paying for the items.

A witness saw the pair get in a vehicle and flee the scene, but got a license plate number and vehicle description and gave it to store employees.

The store reviewed their video surveillance footage and located several images of the suspects and provided that footage to the police for their investigation.

The case remains under investigation.

44-year-old Chelsea woman arrested for DUI

On Aug. 17 at about 2 p.m., a resident contacted police about the possibility that there was something wrong with a woman sitting in her car in the 1200 block of South Main Street.

She was parked crooked in the parking lot and was exhibiting suspicious behavior. Police found the woman leaving the parking lot and followed her to the intersection of East Old US-12 and South Freer Road.

Police determined she may be under the influence of alcohol to the point of impairment according to the police report.

Following standard field sobriety tests, a 44-year-old Chelsea woman was arrested for a DUI and transported to Chelsea hospital for a blood draw to determine the level of alcohol consumption.

She was then taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police

Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Assault reported
On Aug. 11 at about 3:20 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Elm and Taylor Lane for the report of an assault that had taken place between two co-workers.

Upon arrival, the officer met with the victim who stated that he had been verbally assaulted and then punched in the face over a workplace disagreement. The victim had a visual injury to his face but refused medically evaluation.

The victim told police he did not want to pursue criminal charges.

Items stolen from South Main Street store
Police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street on Aug. 11 at about 9:20 p.m. for a report of retail fraud.

The victim told police that an unknown white female and male had entered the store and proceeded to take multiple items and leave the store without paying for them.

After reviewing the surveillance footage no further information on the suspects was available. The case was closed pending further information on the identities of the suspects.

Man charged with ‘interfering with a telecommunication device’
On July 26, police received a 911 call at about 1 p.m. and responded to the area of Book and Wood streets to track down the caller.

Upon arrival, the officers checked the area but were unable to locate anyone in need of assistance, according to the police report.

Several minutes later, dispatch was able to contact the caller and she stated that she was in the 500 block of Washington Street and had a verbal dispute with her child’s father. She told police he grabbed the phone from her preventing her from staying on the line.

Police sent the case to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office and they authorized a misdemeanor charge of interfering with a telecommunication device against the suspect, a 30-year-old Stockbridge man.

Money stolen from dresser drawer
On July 29 at about 3:50 p.m., police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street for a report of “larceny of money” from the building.

The resident stated that an unknown suspect had taken five twenty-dollar bills from her purse, which was located in her dresser drawer.

The victim stated that she had last seen the money on July 26 and noticed the money missing on July 28.

No further information is available at this time.

Manchester man charged with DUI
On July 30, at about midnight, police stopped a vehicle that had pulled out into traffic and nearly hit the patrol vehicle.

Police noticed the vehicle had a defective exhaust and pulled over a 29-year-old Manchester man in the 1600 block of South Main Street.

The officer detected the odor of intoxicants, noted that the driver’s words were slurred and his eyes appeared bloodshot. He was asked to perform some standard field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was taken to the hospital for a blood draw and then to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

Package of mushrooms stolen from store
On July 31, at about 3:30 p.m., police responded to the 1200 block of South Main

Street for the report of a retail fraud.

The victim told police an unknown 45-55 year old, white female with blonde hair had entered the store and stolen a package of mushrooms.

No further information was available on the case.

Woman attempts to cash fake check
On June 28 at about 3:45 p.m., police were called to the 300 block of South Main Street for the report of an attempted check fraud complaint.

Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the complainant who stated that a female subject had entered the premises and presented a payroll check for a Dexter business, according to the police report.

The check had the female subject’s name on it and the complainant verified the identity with the subject’s Michigan driver’s license and photo copied the check and license.

The complainant attempted to contact the business to verify the validity of the check and when she did that the female fled the area.

The suspect is identified as a 29-year-old Harrison Township woman.

The case remains open pending some further follow-up and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Domestic assault reported
On June 23 at about 2:45 a.m., police were called to the 1400 block of Carston Lane for a report of a domestic assault in progress.

Chelsea Police separated the people involved and an 18-year-old Chelsea man was arrested and transported to Washtenaw County Jail.

According to the police report, the argument began over a personal matter and the man damaged his girlfriend’s cell phone. When the 18-year-old man’s brother attempted to break up the argument, the suspect began assaulting him.

The suspect was also accused of breaking out the window of his mother’s vehicle. There were no injuries requiring medical attention but the suspect’s hand was visibly bloody from breaking the car window.

The prosecutor’s office authorized a 6-count misdemeanor warrant: 1 count of  domestic violence, 1 count of assault and battery, 2 counts of malicious destruction of property, 1 count of disorderly person-drunk, and 1 count of minor in possession of alcohol.

Burglary reported on N. Main Street
On June 15, at about 8 a.m., police were called to the 400 block of N. Main Street for a report of a burglary, which had happened overnight.

The victim told police he arrived at work in the morning to find all the doors unlocked and the starter cash as well as money in the safe were gone.

There were no signs of forced entry, and the employee who had closed the night before was sure the doors to the building had been locked.

The case remains under investigation.

Man wanted on misdemeanor warrant arrested
On June 14, at about 10:30 a.m., police went to the Michigan State Police Jackson post to pick up a 45-year-old Napoleon man who was wanted for a misdemeanor warrant.

He was arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held for an arraignment for failure to appear in court for driving with a suspended driver’s license.

Copper planters stolen on Moore Drive
On June 9, at about 5:25 p.m., police were called to the 800 block of Moore Dr.,  for a report of a larceny from a residence.

The victim told police two copper-style planters had been taken from her yard.

She did not have a description of the suspect and the case was closed pending further leads.

Attempt to cash fraudulent checks
On June 8 at about 1:30 p.m., police were called to the 1000 block of South Main St., for a report of “suspicious activity related to some possible attempts to cash

fraudulent checks,” according to the police report.

Police found a 27-year-old Detroit man inside a financial institution who had attempted to cash a fraudulent payroll check. He was arrested and taken back to the police department.

Additional suspects were last seen driving a newer model Toyota Camry with Georgia plates.

A second suspect, a 34-year-old Detroit man, was arrested in Pittsfield Township later that night.

Police are continuing their search for two additional suspects.

Both men were taken to the Washtenaw County Jail for arraignment on the charges.

Domestic assault on Wilkinson Street
On May 29 at about 6:45 p.m., police were called to the 200 block of Wilkinson Street for a report of domestic assault.

A 45-year-old Ypsilanti man was charged and arrested and taken to Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending arraignment.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Retail fraud on South Main Street
On May 26 at about 4 p.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street for a report of retail fraud.

The witness, an employee of the store, told police that he observed a white male leaving through the store entrance with a full cart of groceries.

The witness said he followed the man to his white pickup truck and confronted him.

The suspect refused to cooperate, left some items in the shopping cart and fled.

The case remains open.

22-year-old Chelsea man in possession of pot
On May 24, at about 7:30 a.m., police were called to the 500 block of Washington Street to be on the lookout for someone possible parked and smoking pot in the area.

Police located the vehicle with a 22-year-old Chelsea man inside and smelled pot and found burned marijuana cigarettes in the center console of the vehicle.

The evidence was seized and the case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for possession of marijuana.

35-year-old Stockbridge man arrested on outstanding warrant
On May 22 at about 7:30 p.m., in the 1200 block of South Main Street, police arrested a 35-year-old Stockbridge man wanted for a misdemeanor warrant from Ingham County.

The 35-year-old Stockbridge man was arrested and transported to a meeting place where he was turned over to Stockbridge Police Department.

45-year-old Chelsea woman arrested for DUI following 2-car crash
On May 18, police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Wilkinson Street and Old US-12 about 9 p.m.

As police approached one of the drivers, the odor of alcohol was detected. After completing standard field sobriety tests, a 45-year-old Chelsea woman was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Both Chelsea fire and HVA were called to the scene, according to the police report.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police respond to shots fired complaint, Chelsea man arrested
On May 15 at about 5:30 a.m., police responded to the 500 block of Lane Street for a report of shots fired.

The caller reported that he had heard four shots fired outside, near his home.

Upon arrival, a white male walked toward the officer and later admitted to firing his gun in the air several times after consuming alcohol.

The 34-year-old Chelsea man was arrested and taken to Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held until his blood alcohol level is below the legal limit.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

The firearms were temporarily taken by the officers and held for safekeeping.

Domestic assault between father and son
On May 14 at about 1:11 a.m., police were called to the 400 block of West Middle Street for the report of a domestic assault between a father and son.

The victim told police that his son hit him causing a laceration to his eye, but he refused medical treatment.

The suspect, a 19-year-old Chelsea man, was arrested for domestic assault and was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a two-count assault and battery warrant on the suspect, according to the police report.

Malicious destruction of property  
Police were called to the 50 block of Chestnut Street on May 10 at 11:06 a.m. for a report of a malicious destruction of property complaint.

The victim told police that overnight, a window had been broken out of his pick-up truck.

There is no further information available.

Tools stolen from back of pick-up on South Main Street
On May 10, at about 10:37 a.m. police reported back to the Chelsea Police Department for a complaint of larceny of some tools from a pick-up truck parked in the 1600 block of South Main Street.

The victim stated that he had left his vehicle parked overnight in a parking lot and when he returned to his vehicle the next morning, he noticed several tools were missing from the back cab of the vehicle.

No suspect information is available.

Rock thrown through window by unknown suspect
On May 6 at about 11 p.m., Chelsea police were called to the 400 block of Savannah Lane for a report of malicious destruction of property.

The victims said their teenage son told them that an unknown person had thrown a rock at a window in the living room. The rock shattered the window, but no one entered the home.

Police canvassed the area but no suspects were found. The case is closed pending further information.

25-year-old Chelsea man wanted on multiple warrants arrested
On May 3 about 5 p.m., Chelsea police were alerted to a 25-year-old Chelsea man walking on South Main Street who was wanted on multiple warrants.

The man was picked up while walking in the 700 block of South Main Street.

He was arrested and taken to Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending his court appearance on the charges.

Purses stolen from downtown store
On April 26 at about 4 p.m., Chelsea Police were called to the 100 block of South Main Street for a report of a larceny of several purses from a display.

The display was discovered to be askew and five purses were missing.

The victim believed that this theft might have been related to other theft that had occurred on East Middle Street earlier in the day (see report below) because around 2 p.m. the two black females came into the store and left shortly thereafter.

Wallet stolen from purse  in 100 block of East Middle Street
On April 26, at about 2 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of Middle Street for a report of a larceny of a wallet from an unattended purse.

The victim said she had stepped into the back store room for a minute and when she returned the customers who were in the store, appeared to be acting suspiciously and left.

The two suspects were described as black females, one was heavyset wearing a gray sweat suit and the second suspect had a smaller build and was wearing a multi colored top, according to the police report.

A credit card that was in the stolen wallet was subsequently used at the Target store in Pittsfield Township.

The incident remains under investigation pending identification of the suspects and follow-up with Target loss prevention officers.

Car stolen on Orchard Street

On April 18 at about 9:13 a.m., police were called to the 100 block of Orchard Street for a report of a stolen vehicle.

The victim said he parked his car in his driveway on April 17 and the next morning, it was gone.

On April 19, officers were flagged down by a resident who said there was an unidentified black or dark colored car in the ditch on Trinkle Road between Freer Road and Fletcher Road, which turned out to be the missing car.

There were no visible signs of forced entry or tampering with the ignition.
The case remains open.

Husband and wife fight, wife transported to hospital for evaluation
On April 2 at about 12:40 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of E. Summit St., Chelsea Police were asked to investigate a complaint between a husband and wife following an altercation.

The husband told police that his wife punched him after telling him to leave the house.

The male victim told police she forced her way into the bathroom and a fight caused the shower curtain to get ripped down and he was hit 6-8 times in the arms and chest.

The suspect, a 38-year-old Chelsea woman, was transported to the Chelsea Hospital where she would be evaluated by medical personnel in lieu of going to jail.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Domestic assault on East Street
Police were called to the 400 block of East Street on March 30 at 10 p.m.  for a report of domestic assault.

According to the police report, the husband, a 27-year-old Chelsea man, told police that his wife was acting “crazy” and had “assaulted him.”

The suspect showed the officer signs of scratches, some of which were bleeding following an altercation regarding a cell phone.

Officers determined that both parties participated in the assault and because there was an 18-month-old child in the residence, the husband was taken to jail for the evening.

The case was submitted to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for review and prosecution was denied.

Bike, golf clubs stolen from vehicle
Police were called to the 500 block of Coliseum Drive on March 25 at about 10 p.m. for a report of larceny from a motor vehicle.

The victim stated that he parked his vehicle in the 500 block of Coliseum Drive around 8 p.m. on March 25 and when he returned to his vehicle at approximately 9:45 p.m., he noticed that the passenger side rear window had been forcefully broken out and an expensive mountain bike as well as a set of golf clubs had
been removed from the vehicle.

A canvass of the area located no suspects, and the case remains closed pending any further leads.

Loose pitbulls attack another dog and its owner
On March 27 at about 3:37 p.m., police were called to the 600 block of Old Forge Court for a vicious dog bite complaint.

The officers met with various neighbors who had stated that two pitbull dogs were running loose in the neighborhood and were “acting in an intimidating manner to some of the residents.”

A yellow lab had been attacked by the pitbulls and when the owner of the lab attempted to intervene, she was bitten in the hand causing a laceration.

The victim’s dog was transported by the owner to the Ann Arbor Emergency Vet clinic and the owner went to the Chelsea ER to seek treatment for her injuries.

The loose dogs were eventually contained and were transported to the Huron Valley Humane Society where the will be held for quarantine.

The pitbull dogs’ owners were located in the 13000 block of E. Old US 12, and were interviewed.

The case remains open and under active investigation by the Chelsea Police Department.

Fence damaged  
Police were called to the 10 block of Chestnut Drive on March 11 at 11 a.m. for a report of malicious destruction of property.

The victim told police that sometime during the night, a small white fence located on the side of the house had been damaged.

There were no suspects at the time of the report.

86-year-old Chelsea man refuses to pull over; charged with fleeing police
On March 9 at 1:14 p.m., police attempted to pull over a driver who was going 40 mph in a 25 mph zone on McKinley.

The 86-year-old Chelsea man failed to comply with the officers attempts to stop him and in one instance pulled over and stopped for approximately 15 seconds and then drove off, according to the police report.

The officer was eventually able to get the driver to pull off into the parking lot in the 1100 block of South Main Street, but had to order the driver multiple times to turn off his vehicle.

The driver was placed under arrest for fleeing from police and taken to the Chelsea Police Department where he was processed and eventually released and driven back to his residence in Chelsea.

The case remains open pending prosecution review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Felon wanted in Chelsea arrested in Oakland County
On March 7, at 1:47 p.m., police were notified that a 32-year-old Detroit woman, wanted for falsifying medical records in Chelsea, had been arrested in Oakland County.

The woman was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where she will be held pending arraignment on the charge.

The warrant stemmed from an original complaint in the 700 block of South Main Street, during which the suspect was charged with two counts of falsifying medical records, a felony in Michigan.

Resident alerts police to drunken driver
On March 2 at about 2 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Main Street, police were alerted to a possible drunk driver by a resident.

Police located the vehicle and arrested a 63-year-old Munith man for driving under the influence of alcohol, open intoxicants in a motor vehicle and driving on a suspended license.

In addition, the driver told police that he’d taken prescription medication, which advises the consumer not to consume alcohol and operate a motor vehicle.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

21-year-old Chelsea man arrested for DUI
On Feb. 29 at about 11:45 p.m., police saw a late model Oldsmobile traveling without its headlights on going south on Main Street.

Officers caught up with the vehicle and stopped it in the 900 block of South Main Street. According to the police report, the driver got out of the car and approached the police vehicle.

The officer noticed the driver’s eyes appeared constricted and followed the man back to his car where in plain view was “what appeared to be a glass pipe typically used for smoking marijuana.”

The driver admitted to smoking marijuana and was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. He was eventually turned over to his mother.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office .

34-year-old Chelsea man arrested
On Feb. 28 at about 8 p.m., police were performing a routine liquor inspection in the 500 block of North Main Street, and heard a disturbance coming from the kitchen.

According to the police report, they found a 34-year-old Chelsea man visibly intoxicated who appeared to be upset with some of the workers.

The customer was acting in a loud and disruptive manner and had to be led out of the kitchen area, and while leaving, he slammed the door leading from the kitchen to the dining area and fell to the ground.

Police arrested the man for disorderly conduct and found he was on probation for a Chelsea malicious destruction of property case.

One of the conditions of his probation prohibited him from consuming alcohol. The subject voluntarily agreed to a portable breath test, which confirmed that he was legally intoxicated and under the influence of alcohol.

The man was taken to jail and the case remains open pending Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s review and authorization of the charges.

Speeding leads to DUI arrest for 37-year-old Chelsea man
On Feb. 27 at about 2 a.m. in the 800 block of N. Main Street, police stopped a speeding vehicle with an expired license plate and smelled alcohol inside the car.

The driver, a 37-year-old Chelsea man, told police he’d had two beers at a local Chelsea establishment and had had a margarita at dinner in Ann Arbor earlier in the night.

In addition, police observed “what looked like a 64-ounce glass container with what appeared to be beer in the back passenger compartment of the vehicle,” according to the police report.

The driver failed standard field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

He refused to submit to a blood draw so a search warrant was requested and approved and the blood draw took place at the Chelsea Hospital.

The man was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail and the case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Wheels and tires stolen from three vehicles
On Feb. 22 at about 11:46 a.m. in the 1500 block of S. Main Street, police were called to the scene of a reported larceny from a motor vehicle.

The victims told police that sometime between Sunday evening and Monday morning, three vehicles had been jacked up and all four wheels and tires had been stolen.

The case remains under investigation and there are no suspects.

Items stolen from motorhome on South Main Street
On Feb. 22 at about 11 a.m. , police were called to the 1600 block of South Main Street for a report of a larceny from an auto and malicious destruction of property.

The victim told police that sometime between Sunday evening and Monday morning, a window was smashed in a motorhome and several items were stolen including a navigation system and television.

At the time of the report, there are no suspects.

Man kicks and damages vehicle
On Feb. 8 at about 8:12 p.m., Chelsea police were called to the 800 block of West Middle St. for a report of “harassing and unwanted contact” between a victim and a friend.

The victim told police that the suspect, a 53-year-old Gregory man, was sending her threatening messages and threatened to damage her boyfriend’s vehicle.

Police located the man and he admitted to kicking and damaging the vehicle.

The case remains open pending review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jackson Sheriff’s Department arrests man wanted in Chelsea
On Feb. 8 at about 5:31 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department contacted Chelsea police because they had arrested a 27-year-old Pleasant Lake man wanted on a warrant from the city for impeding traffic.

The man posted bond at the Chelsea Police Department and was issued an appearance date to appear in court.

Tools stolen from truck on South Main Street
On Jan. 25 at about 4:45 p.m., there was a report of multiple tools stolen from the back of a pickup truck in the 1200 block of South Main St.

The victim told police he’d parked his work truck in the 1200 block of South Main St. about 3 p.m., and when he returned to his vehicle at 3:30 p.m., he noticed that the tailgate to the pickup truck was down.

Missing were a generator, cordless drill, pipe cutter, concrete saw, and miscellaneous other tools.

There are no suspects and the case is closed pending new leads.

Counterfeit bill used at business
On Jan. 8 at about 2:50 p.m., police were called to the 1100 block of South Main Street for a report of a counterfeit bill passed at a business.

The complainant said a white male came into the business and made a purchase and paid with a twenty-dollar bill. The attendant stated that the bill appeared to be different from any other bills he had seen and when questioned, the suspect stated that the bill had been through the washing machine.

The attendant accepted the bill but later confirmed that the bill was counterfeit. The suspect was described by a witness as being middle aged white male with graying hair, goatee style facial hair, wearing a Harley Davidson baseball cap, Zukey Lake Tavern hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes.

The suspect was reported to be driving a gray Ford pickup truck with two doors and a step bar for getting into the cab.

The case remains open pending further investigation by the investigators.

Domestic disturbance reported
On Jan. 1 at 2:04 a.m., police were called to the 600 block of Parkside Court for the report of a domestic disturbance in progress.

The victim stated that she and her husband went out and when they got home an argument began over a chore that had not been done.

Tempers flared and the suspect, a 48-year-old Chelsea man, threw a pillow at her, according to the police report.

The suspect also pushed his wife, the victim, off the bed and onto the floor.
The husband was arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail on domestic assault charges.

The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the case and did not prosecute, and the case was closed.

Plainwell man arrested for DUI
On Dec. 31, 2015, at about 12:45 a.m., Chelsea police were called to the 1600 block of South Main Street for a report of a possible intoxicated driver driving erratically.

The officers located the described vehicle, a KIA Sedona, parked diagonally in the parking lot of a local business. The officer located the driver and noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and watery in nature.

The driver admitted to having consumed alcohol and submitted to a Breathalyzer test.

The 41-year-old Plainwell Michigan man was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. He submitted to a blood analysis and was then taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Woman fabricates assault to police
On Dec. 22 at about 11:45 p.m., police responded to the 400 block of Railroad Street for a report of a domestic assault.

The victim reported that she had gotten into an argument with her boyfriend and it had turned physical, leading the suspect, a 26-year-old Chelsea man, to assault the victim, according to the police report.

She told police that the altercation resulted in abrasions and redness to her neck.

Police contacted the alleged suspect by phone and it was later determined that the events and circumstances that led up to the assault were fabricated by the victim.

The information was compiled and turned over to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office for filing a false police report.

The prosecutor’s office declined to prosecute on the charge and the case was closed.

Malicious destruction of property reported
On Dec. 22 at about 7:30 a.m., police were called to the 14000 block of E. Old US 12 for the report of a malicious destruction of property.

The victim told police she’d parked in the lot on Dec. 21 at about 3:30 p.m. and on Dec. 22 at about 7:30 a.m. when she returned to the vehicle, she saw the damage.

The driver side window had been smashed by a rock and the rock was found on the console of the vehicle.

Nothing was taken from the vehicle.

Warrant arrest made and possible DUI charges added
On Dec. 22, at about 12:24 a.m., police observed a vehicle driving southbound on Main Street in the downtown area, and recognized the vehicle as being driven by a 19-year-old Chelsea man wanted on an outstanding warrant for two counts of malicious destruction of property by Chelsea Police.

The officers performed a traffic stop and arrested him for the active warrants. According to the police report, during questioning it became apparent to the officers that the driver was believed to be under the influence of marijuana,according to the police report.

The suspect was transported to the hospital for a blood draw and the sample will be sent to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis for any illegal or prohibited substances.

The suspect was arrested on the destruction of property charges as well as the operating under the influence charge.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office.

Munith woman arrested for driving under the influence
On Dec. 11 at about 3:20 a.m., police responded to the 1500 block of South Main Street for a report of a female motorist who was thought to be under the influence.

Police spoke to the caller and the driver, a 31-year-old Munith woman. The driver told police that she was on multiple medications and had been released from the hospital on Dec. 10 at about 4 p.m., for an unrelated medical issue.

The driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and was transported to the Chelsea Hospital for a chemical blood analysis.

After the blood draw was completed and she was evaluated by a physician, the driver was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where she will be held until she is deemed to be not under the influence.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

Chelsea Police assist Green Oak Township with warrant arrest
On Dec. 9 at about 3 p.m., police responded to the 700 block of South Main Street to assist Green Oak Township with a warrant pickup on a 44-year-old Brighton woman.

Upon arrival, the arrest was made without incident, and the woman was transported by Green Oak Township to the Livingston County Jail.

Vehicle recovered thanks to Flint and Chelsea police
On Dec. 8 at about 2:30 p.m., police responded to the police building for a report of a stolen vehicle.

The victim stated that his sister in-law, a 47-year-old Grand Blanc woman, had taken his van without his permission and possibly driven it to Flint and left it parked on a side street.

On Dec. 9, in conjunction with the Flint Police Department, the vehicle was located in Flint and was impounded. The vehicle was recovered and the owner was notified that the vehicle was located.

The case remains open pending further investigation and an attempt to interview the suspect.

34-year-old Chelsea man arrested for assault
On Nov. 27 at 7:56 a.m., police responded to the 100 block of Van Buren Street for a report of an assault with a baseball bat.

The victim told police his 34-year-old son became enraged and assaulted him with a baseball bat, hitting him in the legs.

The assault resulted in at least one leg fracture to the victim.

The suspect then fled the area on foot carrying the weapon and his dad told police he feared that the son was headed to his grandparent’s house in the 200 block of Harrison Street.

Police were told the Chelsea man entered his grandparents’ house and was visibly upset and unstable. He took the keys to his grandfather’s pickup truck and fled the area, according to the police report.

About 30 minutes later, the pickup was located in the suspect’s driveway.

Upon approaching the house officers were met by the suspect who peacefully surrendered and was placed under arrest for felonious assault and unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle.

He was processed and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending arraignment.

Vandalism found in South Main Street parking lot
On Nov. 15 at about 8:30 a.m., police responded to the 1500 block of South Main Street for the report of a malicious destruction of property.

Police found there was spray paint in multiple areas in the parking lot including a light pole, fence and a dumpster, and the damage was believed to have taken place sometime between 2 p.m. on Nov. 14 and 5 a.m. on Nov. 15.

At the time of report, there are no suspects, and the case was closed pending further leads.

Speeder stopped, driving on suspended license
On Nov. 13 at 2:30 p.m., police stopped a speeding vehicle in the 600 block of East Industrial Dr.

The driver, a 29-year-old Jackson man, told police he did not have a valid driver’s license.

The man was allowed to park his vehicle and proceed to work.

The case will be submitted to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office for a charge of driving on a suspended license (2nd offense).

19-year-old Chelsea woman arrested for DUI
On Nov. 13 at about 3:45 a.m. police were called to the 500 block of North Main Street, for a report of a drunk and disorderly person.

The suspect, a 19-year-old Chelsea woman, was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

No further details are currently available.

Car broken into on East Old US-12
On Nov. 11 at about 2:43 p.m., police were called to the 14000 block of East Old US-12 for a report of a malicious destruction of property.

The victim told police that she had parked her vehicle in the parking lot around 7:15 a.m. and when she returned to her vehicle at 12:15 p.m., everything was fine. However, when she went out to her vehicle at 2:40 p.m., she noticed that the rear window had been broken.

Nothing appeared to have been taken from the car and the case was closed pending further leads.

No fire found but 3 fire extinguishers discharged
On Nov. 7 at about 2:25 a.m., police responded to the 400 block of Congdon Street for a report of an unknown alarm going off in a building.

Police found an unsecured door and three fire extinguishers that appeared to had been discharged. Chelsea Fire Department was called to the scene, but no signs of a fire were found.

The caller reported that a white vehicle sped away from the scene shortly after she called police.

It also appears that nothing was taken from the building, according to the police report, but the incident remains open pending further information.

Assault reported
On Nov. 5 at about 11:52 p.m., police were called to the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive for a report of an assault.

The coworkers involved had visible injuries and medical personnel were called to the scene, according to the police report.

The victim told police that he and a co-worker had been in town working on a job site and there was a disagreement about “work ethic,” according to the police report.

The victim stated that he did not wish to press charges against the suspect, and the case was closed due to lack of a cooperating victim.

17-year-old Chelsea High School student dies
At about 2 a.m. on Oct. 31, police were called to the 200 block of North Street for a report of malicious destruction of property complaint.

According to the press release, officers spotted the suspect vehicle and stopped it in the 100 block of Lincoln Street.

“The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was identified as a 17-year-old Chelsea man. After handing over his identification he was asked to step out of the vehicle, at that point the driver fled the scene at a high rate of speed and headed south on Taylor Street.

“The vehicle was located approximately five blocks down the street near the intersection of Taylor Street and Moore Drive where the driver had struck a tree and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The case remains open pending investigation by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Departments Accident Investigation unit.”

The police department contacted the Chelsea Public Schools regarding possible grief counseling for students at Chelsea High School.

“In addition to the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and the Chelsea Pubic Schools, the Chelsea Police Department would like to thank the Chelsea Area Fire Authority, Huron Valley Ambulance and the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner’s Office for their assistance during this tragic event,” said Police Chief Ed Toth in a press release.

Pinckney man arrested for two bench warrants
On Oct. 28 at about 2:28 p.m., police were called to the 700 block of South Main Street to pick up a subject who reportedly had two valid felony bench warrants out of Livingston County.

The suspect, a 34-year-old Pinckney man, was arrested without incident and transported to Stockbridge to meet with the Livingston County Sheriff deputy.

Purse stolen from vehicle on South Main Street
On Oct. 26 at about 7:30 p.m., police were called to the 1000 block of South Main St. for a report of a larceny from a motor vehicle.

The victim told police that she parked her vehicle at about 4:30 p.m. and when she returned at about 7:30 p.m. her passenger side window had been smashed out an her purse was missing. Nothing else in the vehicle had been disturbed.

Larceny from auto
On Oct. 25 at about 9:34 a.m., police responded to a report of a larceny from an auto in the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive.

The victim told police that someone had broken out the driver side window of the vehicle and removed the in-dash navigation/stereo receiver.

The victim told police the vehicle had been parked about 6:30 pm on Oct. 24 and the next morning, the male victim returned to his vehicle and saw the theft.

Packages stolen from van in driveway
On Oct. 16 at about 7:06 p.m. in the 100 block of Van Buren Street, police were called to a residence for a report of a larceny from a motor vehicle.

The victim told police that she arrived home at around 6 p.m. and found two packages had been delivered to her front porch. She placed them inside her van and went into her home. When the victim went back outside to her vehicle at about 6:45 p.m., she noticed that the packages were gone.

At this time, there are no suspects, according to the police report.

Chelsea man arrested for DUI
On Oct. 16, at about 2:20 pm, police got a complaint about a male driver of a yellow Corvette who might be driving under the influence with a female passenger in the car.

Police saw the vehicle pull into a parking lot in the 900 block of South Main Street and found a 67-year-old Chelsea man who was under the influence of alcohol and was suspected of being over the legal limit, according to the police report.

He was arrested and the case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the

Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

Attempted burglary
On Oct. 15, at about 6 p.m., police were called to the 900 block of Moore Drive for the report of a burglary that was believed to have occurred sometime between 4 and 5:45 p.m. that day.

The homeowner reported that he arrived home and observed fresh damage to the entry door to his residence. Officers searched the area and the residence and it is not believed that the suspect was able to gain entry into the residence.

No suspect information was available at the time of the report.

Home invasion
On Oct. 15, at about 1:02 p.m., police were called to the 800 block of Taylor Street for a report of a home invasion.

The victim told police she arrived home at about 1 p.m. and heard two female Spanish speaking voices inside the home. One was in her early- to mid- 50’s, about 5’3” tall and 140 pounds, the second was described as being in her middle to late 60’s or early 70’s, heavyset and approximately 5’ tall.

Both women left the home and headed three doors down to an awaiting vehicle.

The victim told people one of the suspects got into the passenger seat and the other suspect got into the backseat of a newer model dark gray or silver foreign sedan then fled the area heading southbound on Taylor Street toward West Old US-12.

Domestic assault reported
On Oct. 10 at about 9:21 p.m. in the 20000 block of West Old US-12, police responded to a report of domestic assault.

“Upon arrival, the officers located the victim who was visibly upset and was sitting in her vehicle,” according to the police report. She had grass stains and dirt on her jeans but did not want to talk about what had happened.

Officers later located the suspect, a 44-year-old Belleville man and placed him under arrest for domestic assault. He was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Intoxicated woman taken to hospital for evaluation
On Oct. 9 at 4 a.m., police responded to the 500 block of North Main Street
for the report of a highly intoxicated female, who was sitting in the hallway of a building.

Police found a 41-year-old Ann Arbor woman with numerous bottles of alcohol both opened and sealed, as well as a small container of what they believe to be pot and a pipe.

“Due to the suspect’s highly intoxicated state, an ambulance was called and the suspect was voluntarily transported to the Chelsea Hospital for evaluation,” according to the police report.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

Mail box, flowers damaged
Chelsea Police were called to the 50 block of Chestnut Drive on Oct. 4 for a report of malicious destruction of property that happened between Oct. 1-3.

The victim told police that an unknown vehicle had hit the mailbox and also drove through flowers that were planted nearby the mailbox.

There were visible tire tracks leading from the road to the mailbox and flower area, according to the police report.

Police were unable to determine if the damage was an accident or done on purpose.

Domestic assault
On Oct. 1 at about 6:17 p.m., police were called to the 1300 block of Saint James

Place for the report of a domestic assault complaint.

The caller, a 47-year-old Chelsea woman told police that she and her estranged

husband are in the process of a divorce and they had been arguing about possessions taken without mutual agreement.

The woman attempted to get inside her estranged husband’s car and grabbed his shirt collar. The man tried to free himself and grabbed her wrist.

No arrests were made, the two were separated and the case remains open pending further investigation and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Domestic assault and arrest
On Sept. 30 at 12:03 a.m., police were called to the 600 block of West Middle

Street for the report of domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, police were met at the door by a female victim, who was visibly upset and who began showing officers some bruising on her forearm, according to the police report.

Police also spoke to and arrested a 48-year-old Chelsea man who was in the house.

“The victim was reluctant at first to provide any information as to how or who injured her but eventually she stated that the suspect and her had gotten into a verbal argument and he proceeded to grab her arm in an aggressive manner causing the bruising to her arm,” the police report states.

The suspect was placed under arrest for domestic assault and was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

A warrant was issued by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for one count of domestic assault and he will be held pending arraignment on the charge.

58-year-old Chelsea man arrested for drunk driving
On Sept. 22, at about 6:10 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of South Main Street for a report of a drunk driver.

Police found a 58-year-old Chelsea man in the parking lot of a local establishment behind the wheel of his vehicle.

According to the police report, a strong odor of alcohol was emanating from the driver and it was determined he was highly intoxicated.

“Due to the driver’s physical state and his inability to stand upright no field sobriety tests were performed,” the police report states.

He was arrested, transported to Chelsea hospital for a blood draw and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

Bank robber arrested
On Sept. 21 at about 2:06 p.m., police responded to an armed bank robbery in the 1400 block of South Main Street.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 30’s with a camo hat, facial hair, and a pair of sunglasses. He reportedly entered the bank and approached a teller and produced a note indicating that he had a gun and demanded all of the money in the drawers.

No gun was observed by the teller but the employee complied with the suspect’s demands before he fled the building heading southbound on foot. Images from the bank were distributed and the robber was identified as a 38-year-old Grand Ledge man.

He was arrested in Eaton County by Michigan State Police and other local law enforcement agencies and taken to Eaton County Jail where he will be held on unrelated outstanding warrants.

Larceny from vehicles on Commerce Park Drive
Police were called to the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive on Sept. 19 at about 9 a.m. for a report of a larceny from a vehicle, and to the 1500 block of Commerce Park Drive at about 8:45 the same day for another report of larceny from a vehicle.

In both cases, the victims told police that they had parked their vehicles in the lots on Sept. 18 between 8 and 9 p.m. and when they returned to the vehicle about 9 a.m. the next day, the driver side window was smashed out and their in-dash GPS and radio units had been forcefully removed from the dashboard.

Suspect wanted for Chelsea warrant arrested by Pittsfield police
On Sept. 18 at about 4 p.m., Chelsea Police were informed by the Pittsfield Township Department of Public Safety that they’d arrested a 35-year-old Clinton man for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

While doing a routine computer check, police found the suspect had a warrant out of Chelsea for failing to appear on a charge of driving under the influence.

The suspect was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending arraignment on the charge.

Counterfeit currency discovered
On Sept. 9 at about 7:15 p.m., police were called to the 1500 block of South Main Street for a report of counterfeit currency.

According to the police report, the victim said three to four black males came into the store and purchased a variety of small items and each of them paid with $20 dollar bills.

When the suspects left the store, the manager became suspicious and went back to the cash drawer and further examined the bills and determined that they were counterfeit.

The suspects were seen driving a newer model Dodge Charger with a Michigan plate.

The suspects also went to a business in the 1100 block of South Main Street and repeated the same type of exchanges but the counterfeit bills were not discovered until the next day by a bank.

The case remains under investigation.

Alcohol suspected in vehicle crash
On Sept. 2 at about 9:50 p.m., police were called to the intersection of North Freer and Dexter-Chelsea roads for a report of a car accident.

The suspect, a 70-year-old Chelsea man had reportedly left the scene of the accident, according to the police report, and police believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The suspect was located and transported to Chelsea Hospital for a blood draw to determine the driver’s level of intoxication.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police crime lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office.

Registration sticker stolen from license plate
On Aug. 28 about 7:45 p.m., police were called to the 20000 block of W. Old US-12 for a report of a larceny of a registration tab sticker off from a parked vehicle’s license plate.

The caller told people he saw the 62-year-old Chelsea man ride his bicycle into the parking lot and stop his bicycle between two parked vehicles. He watched as the suspect removed the 2016 registration tab from a Ford Explorer, and took photos of the theft.

The suspect denied the theft when speaking with police, but he was wanted on a warrant from Jackson Police Department for failing to appear on a driving on a suspended license charge.

The man was arrested, a search warrant was issued, but the missing registration sticker was not found. The suspect was transported to the I-94 and Clear Lake Road exit and turned over to the Jackson police.

The case remains open and police are still looking for the owner of the vehicle.

Domestic assault arrest made
On Aug. 16 at about 4 p.m., Chelsea Police were called to the 500 block of N. Main Street for a report of a domestic disturbance.

After speaking to the two people involved, a 41-year-old Chelsea woman was arrested for domestic assault and transported to Washtenaw County Jail where she will be held until her arraignment.

A misdemeanor charge of domestic assault was authorized by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ypsilanti man arrested for DUI
Police stopped a 24-year-old Ypsilanti man on Aug. 15 at the intersection of East Old US 12 and South Main Street at 3:10 a.m. and arrested him for a DUI.

Chelsea Police were alerted to the man who was driving a white sedan by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies had received a call about a driver who might be operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.

Chelsea Police saw the driver come to a stop well before the stop line at the intersection of E. Old US 12 and S. Main Street and pulled him over.

Officers requested that the driver perform standard field sobriety tests, and the driver was found to be drunk. He was arrested and taken to Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held until his blood alcohol level went below the legal limit.

Scio Township man arrested
On Aug. 12 at about 11:46 a.m., Chelsea Police responded to the 100 block of S. Main Street and arrested a 33-year-old Scio Township man who was drunk and on probation.

The man was taken to the Dexter substation of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and turned over to a deputy.

31-year-old Grass Lake woman charged with DUI and resisting arrest
On Aug. 12 at about 1:35 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Main Street, police were called to a store where a 31-year-old Grass Lake woman was believed to be drunk and arguing with staff.

Upon arrival, police smelled alcohol on her breath and saw several bottles of alcohol sitting in plain view in her vehicle, including an empty bottle of wine and vodka and a half full bottle that was labeled as vodka.

The woman admitted that she had consumed some of the alcohol while driving around earlier in the evening. She was arrested and put in the back of the patrol car and refused to comply with the blood alcohol analysis via a blood draw.

The officers requested and were granted a search warrant for her blood, and the suspect was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

An additional charge of “resisting a law enforcement officer” will be added for not complying with the officer once she was already placed under arrest and handcuffed.

Domestic disturbance reported
Chelsea Police responded to west North Street and North Main on Aug. 1 at about 6:24 p.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance between a male and a female.

According to the police report, the two had an on-again, off-again relationship and the 17-year-old Chelsea boy told police he and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument that got physical.

Both the boy and the girl blamed each other for starting the fight.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested for domestic assault and was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

Upon review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office, the charges were dismissed “due to the inability to determine who the initial aggressor in the fight was and conflicting statements” from the two teens.

Front window of business on South Main Street smashed
On July 31, at about 5:03 a.m., police responded to a burglar alarm in the 1100 block of South Main

Street and found the front window of the building was smashed out but there were no suspects in the area.

Security camera footage showed a white male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt carrying what looks like a blue cloth bag. He was seen smashing the front window, rummaged through the store and attempting to steal items, then fleeing the store through the front door.

It’s unknown if he left the scene on foot or in a vehicle.

The case remains open.

Items stolen from car parked in 300 block of North Main Street

Chelsea Police were called to the 300 block of North Main Street for a report of a larceny from an auto.

The victim told police that he parked his vehicle on Friday, July 17 at about 12:30 a.m. and when he returned at 7 a.m., the rear window was pulled from its track and his laptop and other items were missing.

The case is closed pending further leads.
