Publisher’s message: Did you know this about the farmers markets?

Not only are the two Chelsea farmers markets popular with community members but also their impact on the downtown is significant as well.

On Wednesdays, when the Bushel Basket Market takes place, visitors to the market positively impact nearby businesses. According to estimates, an additional $310,170 is spent at other businesses by those who visit the market.

In the case of the Chelsea Saturday Farmers Market, that impact increases to $1.293 million.

Both figures are estimated using something called a SEED multiplier, which measures a public market’s economic impact on the surrounding area, according to Market Manager Stephanie Willette.

And, while on the topic of economic impact on local businesses, I’d like to thank the following folks who have recently supported Chelsea Update with donations.
