Each year, I attend the annual agriculture banquet at Chelsea High School because as everyone knows, I am a huge supporter of farmers but equally as important is because I always feel so honored to be surrounded by so many wonderful local farming families.
Organized by the Washtenaw County Dairy Livestock Council, it’s an evening of friendship and food that honors hardworking individuals who have dedicated a lifetime to one of the most vital and important professions in the world.
Plus, it’s always fun to learn which farmers will be honored for distinguished service to agriculture. This year’s honorees are probably familiar to many of you — Albert Rulig and Archie Bradbury. Both of these gentlemen have been around for a long time lending their support and expertise to younger generations of farmers across the county and beyond.
And, did I mention that the food is always outstanding? It’s catered by Chelsea Food Services and served by the Chelsea High School National Honor Society.
More than 300 people attended the banquet, which was held during National Agriculture Week, and the group was entertained by the Huron Valley Harmonizers, a men’s chorus that sang in four-part harmony.
And I’d also like to thank all the local businesses that donated items to the raffle that takes place at the end of the evening. Once again, I won something fun — this year, it was a gift certificate from Part’s Peddler. Looking forward to doing some shopping.
