The Purple Rose Theatre Company is proud to announce its 25th Anniversary Script Preview Tour, coming to a venue near you this summer.

The tour is a 5-stop live concert reading from five classic and world-premiere plays to be staged in the theatre’s 25th Anniversary season. Partnering with such cultural venues as The Detroit Institute of Arts and Detroit Film Theatre, Cranbrook Institute of Science, Chelsea Community Schools and The Chelsea District Library, Cleary University and The Arthur Secunda Museum, and Riverwalk Theatre, the Purple Rose will engage existing patrons, loyal donors, and a significant new audience through this free program by world-class professionals.

The 5-stop tour dates are:

  1. Chelsea High School on Tuesday, June 23 @ 7pm
  2. Riverwalk Theatre (Lansing) Sunday, June 28 @ 7pm
  3. Cleary University’s Johnson Center (Howell) Tuesday, June 30 @ 7pm
  4. Cranbrook Institute of Science (Bloomfield Hills) Sunday, July 19 @ 7pm
  5. DIA/Detroit Film Theatre (Detroit) Friday, August 21 @ 7pm

The objectives of the tour are to highlight:

  • Chelsea’s arts and culture partnership model for original script development
  • Raise a level of awareness of the leading impact and contribution the Purple Rose has on the American stage
  • Inspire young leaders by giving our younger audience the tools to fully connect and engage with the Purple Rose and program partners
  • Stimulate a more demographically and geographically diverse audience to embrace the material the Purple Rose will launch in its upcoming season
  • To build strong alliances and help promote other community organizations who support the arts and the PRTC mission.

The tour’s live concert reading format will tickle your funny-bone, warm your heart, and take you on a thrill ride with snippets from 2AZ by Michael Brian Ogden, The Casting Session by Jeff Daniels, The Odd Couple by Neil Simon, Gaps in the Fossil Record by Matt Letscher, and Mornings At Seven by Paul Osborn.

It will also accurately reflect on the PRTC’s historical achievements and impact on excellence, gender equality, new play development, and answer the question, “What do the next 25 years hold?”
