Recent Obituary: Marilyn Sue (Stolz) Gartside

Marilyn Sue (Stolz) Gartside formerly of Chelsea, age 73, of Naples, Fla., died July 23 after a short illness.

She was born April 27, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio to Roland and Mary (Smith) Stolz.

Marilyn attended St. Mary of the Springs Academy, married and had four children. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a BSN and spent most of her 25-plus year career as an RN at the University of Michigan Hospitals.

On June 7, 1980, Marilyn married the love of her life, Frank Gartside. They made their home in Chelsea, Mich. After moving to Florida, she continued in the healthcare field teaching CNA classes at local colleges.

Marilyn was known for her infectious laugh and feisty nature. She was a natural redhead, afterall. She loved animals of all kinds, from goats to hamsters, but had a special affection for dogs. As a trained nurse and as part of her true nature, Marilyn possessed that elusive ability to remain calm during crises and was relied on many times when family and friends (or even friends of) were ill. Her caregiver talents were unsurpassed.

Services will be private. Donations in Marilyn’s memory may be made to Avow Hospice, Inc. of Naples at www.avowcares.org or a humane society of your choosing.
