Parker,-George-webGeorge William Parker, age 75, passed away peacefully after a long illness at Towsley Village, Chelsea Retirement Community in Chelsea on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014.

George was born on Nov. 17, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to Samuel and Arabella Parker, the youngest of seven children. They lived in Redford until he was 12, when the family moved to a farm at the corner of Ford and Plymouth Road in Dixboro bringing him to the Ann Arbor area that he would grow to love.

George graduated from University High in Ann Arbor in 1958, where he excelled in football. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964. He earned his B.A. from Eastern Michigan University in 1964 and his J.D. from Wayne State in 1967. After working in the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office, George worked in private practice for almost twenty years before becoming Magistrate for the 14A District Court in 1988. During his twenty years on the bench, he performed countless unique marriages as officiant, a role he relished.

George served on the Washtenaw County Community Mental Health Board, the Washtenaw Council on Alcoholism Board, and was an active member of the Chelsea Kiwanis Club. He sought to help everyone he met and did so with an infectious smile. His tireless work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to see the best in those around him are what made him such a great husband, father, and friend.

George and his wife Judy were married on Aug. 26, 1967. Shortly after, they moved to Chelsea where they would spend thirty years restoring an 1840s farmhouse while raising their son, Andrew. George took pride in disassembling, moving, and reconstructing a large barn, building an Irish stonewall, gardening, and planting trees with his family. He also loved New England, antiquing, U of M sports, and the Detroit Tigers. In later years, he enjoyed reading, playing with his grandchildren, and walking the beach in Florida with his wife and his brother Bob.
