Recent obituary: Richard K. Borton

Richard K. Borton, DDS, died June 22, 2018.

Rich died peacefully at a hospice near his home in Venice, FL with family at his side.  He was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2017 and recently became acutely ill with congestive heart failure.

Rich was born Dec. 2, 1938 in Hudson, MI, son of Ruth and Noel Borton. He attended Ypsilanti schools and Eastern Michigan University. Following his graduation from the University of Michigan Dental School in 1964 and two years in the Air Force, he practiced dentistry in Chelsea for 34 years.

After retirement in 2000, he moved to Elk Rapids, MI and spent winters at his home in Venice, FL.

Rich loved his family, his friends, his children’s friends and his patients. His fondest memories were of hosting parties and dinners, family vacations with as many kids as he could pack into a van, and hunting and fishing with his buddies. He traveled to many places, loved the outdoors and was an avid reader.

Rich was a Chelsea Village councilman for four years and a former member of Kiwanis, Chelsea Rod and Gun Club and St. Paul United Church of Christ.

A Friday night gathering commemorating Rich’s life will be held Aug. 17, 2018 at Inverness Country Club, 13893 N. Territorial Road, Chelsea, 5-9 p.m.
