Recent obituary: Sheridan W. Springer

Sheridan W. Springer, age 83, of North Lake/Dexter Township, passed away at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti on April 20, 2018.

He was surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.

Sheridan was born on June 30, 1934, in Ann Arbor, the son of Walter W. and Ruth (Forshee) Springer. Sheridan was raised in Ann Arbor. He met Sallie Wilson, his wife to be, when he was 11 years old at Slauson Junior High School. They were high school sweethearts at Ann Arbor High School and were married on Aug. 31, 1954.

Sheridan graduated from the University of Michigan with his business administration degree in 1956. He served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army from 1956-1958 in Frankfort, Germany. Sheridan and Sallie raised their family in Ann Arbor until 1976, when they relocated to North Lake where they currently reside.

Sheridan joined his father Walt, in the family business, Springer Insurance Agency, later Springer-Kleinschmidt Agency in Ann Arbor. He purchased a second insurance agency in Chelsea in 1975, which he sold in January 2016. He was a licensed insurance agent for 59 years.

Sheridan was active in many community service endeavors. He served on the Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, as President of the Ann Arbor Insurance Association, President of the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce, and Chairman of the Chelsea Downtown Development Authority. He also served on the Dexter Township Planning Commission and the Tax Board of Review for many years.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018, at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, 901 North Main St., Chelsea.

The Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the First Congregational Church at 608 E. William St., Ann Arbor. The Rev. Robert K. Livingston will be presiding.

Visitation at the Church will be held prior to the service from 2-3 p.m. Parking is available at the Thompson/Maynard Street Parking Structure.
