Recent obituary: Thomas Riley Collinsworth

Thomas Riley “Dooley” Collinsworth of Chelsea, age 95, passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born April 24, 1922, in Salyersville, Kentucky, the son of Rollie and Addie (Cooper) Collinsworth. He was one of 12 children.

He worked on the family farm before joining the Army to serve in WWII in December of 1942. In WWII, he served overseas with the 729 Military Police Battalion. In September of 1949, he moved to Chelsea, Michigan. He retired from Rockwell after more than 30 years in 1983. For decades, he marched in the Chelsea Memorial Day Parade and the Fair Parade and was a Life Member of the VFW Post 4076.

Dooley loved to laugh and tell stories of his life’s adventures. He had a smile for everybody. He loved watching sports, especially the Detroit Tigers.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 6, 11 a.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Stephen Hohl officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Sylvan Township.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
