Recent obituaries: Sherman D. Funk, Emogene “Jean” Poe

Funk,-Sherman-photoSherman D. Funk passed away at the age of 81 at his home on Oct. 16, 2014.

He was born in Grayson County, Virginia, the son of Sherman Parsons and Trula Lee (Pinion) Funk on March 13, 1933.

Sherman enjoyed fishing and growing up in the mountains of Virginia. He attended technical school in Chicago. His enjoyment of electronics led him to join the United States Air Force during the Korean War era. He later worked for the FAA and retired from the EPA as Network Manager in the Engineering Department, serving 49 years in the Federal Government. He was an avid lover of Bluegrass music and emceed many Bluegrass events and was a DJ on radio station WSDS and host of the weekly show “Coffee and Bluegrass”.  In his retirement, he greatly enjoyed his fishing boat and spending time flying around the world from his den on his aviation simulator.

Poe,-Emogene-webEmogene “Jean” Poe, age 73, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio, with family surrounding her bedside.

Emogene was proud to have worked for Federal Screw Works for 25 years. She had many talents and enjoyed sewing, painting, and decorating. She loved many and they loved her as well. May we cherish each and every one because life is so short and it seems like we only get a little time together. Remember to love each one, each and every day, because it could be your last.
