The Chelsea Area Fire Authority was able to contain an early Wednesday morning fire to the attic and garage area of a home in the 1100 block of Scio Church Road in Lima Township.

Fire Chief Jim Payeur said the call came in about 5:15 a.m. for the large, old 2-story farm house and when crews arrived, the garage was 100 percent involved and the fire was moving across the attic.

He said firefighters were able to contain the fire in the attic but the garage is a total loss.

“The house was saved but there’s a lot of damage and all the utilities had to be cutoff. We called Red Cross for assistance for the occupants,” he said.

There were no injuries to the occupants or pets.

Firefighters arrived from Dexter, Scio, Manchester, Ann Arbor Township and the City of Ann Arbor, Payeur said, about 33 firefighters total. It took about 45 minutes to get the fire under control.

There is no cause and no damage estimate at this point.
