The Chelsea Kiwanis Club is currently conducting a raffle to raise funds for the Chelsea Kiwanis Club Foundation, which supports scholarships to Chelsea graduates in addition to the Kiwanis International’s worldwide service project to Eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus.

The prize is a one-week stay in a luxury ocean front villa in the paradise of the Caribbean Cayman Islands. The villa accommodates six with a lock-off studio with a kitchenette, hot tub and private veranda. Two families can share it. The prize also includes $400 for expenses.  Prize dates are Aug. 20-27, 2016. Tickets are $20 for one or $50 for three.

The drawing will be held Monday, Aug. 31 at our regular meeting in St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea dining room.

Recently, our President Joe Scheuring, presented four Kiwanis Fellowship Scholarships totaling $4,000 at Chelsea High School’s awards evening.  About 130 seniors or 60 percent of the class received one or more of the 300 scholarships and awards given out.

This Monday our speaker will be Rick Boham, president of Chelsea Community Fair Board.  We expect to hear about recent improvements and future plans for one of the largest community fairs in the state, which has been held here for almost 80 years.

We also hope to hear from Abraham Cone, a Chelsea Boy Scout who is working on his Eagle project at the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality in Ann Arbor.  He will be finishing and painting a meeting room for the homeless.

The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.  Everyone is invited to the meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
