Robin Hills Farm has added new classes to its summer/fall education programs, which are focused on permaculture.

Permaculture, or “permanent agriculture,” was a term first coined by David Holmgren in 1978, and refers to a philosophy that focuses on sustainable living practices that mimic natural ecosystems.

“The Permaculture Way” series will feature several interactive workshops focused on various permaculture principles and are led by permaculture experts, Bridget O’Brien and Jesse Tack.

The first classes begin on July 30, at 1 p.m. There are two offered. Adults can register for “Water Wise Garden Design,” which will cover practical and easy ways to store water in your land. Cost of the course is $30.

At the same time, and for parents who want to attend the adult class, a children’s class will be offered. This class, “Nurturing Nature,” will explore the things we need to live and how nature provides these things through hands-on activities, movement, and song. The cost for the children’s class is $15 for one child, $25 for two.

The series continues into the summer and fall with a new offering each month. “Aesthetically Edible,” a class focused on edible landscaping is scheduled for Aug. 20 at 11 a.m. “Reading the Landscape with a Permaculture Design Process in Mind,” is scheduled for Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. “Personal Food Security Systems by Design” is scheduled for Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. All classes are $30. Classes can be taken individually or as a series.
