Several Chelsea boards and committees need members

Currently, the City of Chelsea is looking for 2 Downtown Development Authority members, 1 Planning Commission member for a 3-year term, 1 Zoning Board of Appeals member, 1 Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate for a 3-year term and 2 Board of Review Members for indefinite terms.

If you think you might be interested for any of these positions, more information about the qualifications are listed below.

Board of Review Member – Must be a registered voter and a resident of City of Chelsea for at least one year

  • Be available for required Board of Review dates (the 3rd Tuesday in July, the 2nd Tuesday in December, and two days each week the first and third weeks of March)
  • Instruct taxpayers on the process of appealing a local tax assessment
  • Maintain effective working relationships with City employees and Board Members
  • Exhibit respectful customer service when interacting with local business owners and residents
  • Attend training as necessary to support Board of Review responsibilities
  • Perform tasks required to help support the City Assessor in Board of Review needs
  • Perform other related work as necessary to support the City of Chelsea Board of Review

DDA Board Member – Must be a resident or own or operate a business in the DDA district

  • Be available for required DDA meeting dates (the 3rd Thursday of every month, 7:30 a.m.)
  • With additional work sessions scheduled periodically
  • Maintain effective working relationships with City employees and Board Members
  • Exhibit respectful customer service when interacting with local business owners and residents
  • Attend training as necessary to support DDA responsibilities
  • Perform tasks required to help support the DDA and implement the DDA Plan
  • Perform other related work as necessary to support the DDA

Planning Commission Member – Must be a current resident of City of Chelsea

    • Be available for required Planning Meetings dates (work sessions are held the 1st Tuesday of the month and voting meetings the 3rd Tuesday of the month).
    • Helps to create, recommend and carry out policies regarding the physical development of the community.
    • Reviews, drafts and recommends Master Plan revisions and amendments to City Council.
    • Reviews, drafts and recommends Zoning Ordinance amendments and property rezonings to City Council.
    • Reviews site plans for new development ensuring compliance with Master Plan and Zoning Ordinance.
    • Hold public hearings to hear the views of our neighbors regarding new developments, Master Plan updates, rezoning and ordinances changes.
    • Prepare for meetings by reviewing materials submitted by staff in a timely manner.

Zoning Board Member – Must be a current resident of City of Chelsea

  • Be available for required Zoning Board of Appeals dates (the 3rd Wednesday of the month, as needed).
  • Prepare for meetings by reviewing materials submitted by staff in a timely manner.
  • Hold public hearings to listen to the concerns of the public while reviewing an appeal.
  • Treat each person and variance request in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Read and understand the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance.
