The Chelsea Art Market, curated by River Gallery on behalf of Chelsea Area Festivals and Events, announced the 2015 artist line-up featuring cool, hip and affordable art from emerging artists and craft persons.
The juried show coincides with the Sounds and Sights Festival on July 24 and 25 from noon to 8 p.m. and is located at West and East Middle Streets downtown.
Growing on the success of the newly revamped indie-format, this year marked the largest number of applicants for the Chelsea Art Market. Out of this large talent pool, 48 artists were selected to sell their wares at the 2015 event.
“Together with the artists, we have created a fresh vibe for the Art Market. Many past exhibitors are returning this year, and we have actively sought out unique exhibitors with a fresh edge to add to the mix,” said Patti Schwarz, Art Market Program Coordinator and Director of River Gallery + Exhibits.
“Throughout the jury process, we focus on our vision and keep our craftsmanship standards high. We have assembled an array of exceptional artists who have reinvented the art market scene.” Said Schwarz.
All artists participating in the Chelsea Art Market are from throughout the Midwest. Various mediums will be represented including melted glass pieces designed by Kiersten Kern of “Red Opal Designs”, mixed media prints by Terry Butler, and Steampunk furniture created by Lisa Rosendahl of “Slide35”.
Chelsea Art Market spectators also have the opportunity to watch downtown street artists as they demonstrate techniques in clay, glass, spray paint, jewelry making, painting, and wood. Local artist and owner of VEO Art Studio, Elizabeth Wilson, will be demonstrating the creation of a 3D portrait in water-based clay, from building the armature to refining the portrait.
In addition to the Chelsea Art Market, visitors can explore the 39th Annual Sounds and Sights Festival also held in historic downtown Chelsea, Michigan. The two-day, three- night festival draws over 15,000 visitors annually and features national and regional live music acts, local food and brew, an annual public art sculpture exhibit and activities for the entire family.
