Speedy Spots began in 1998 in Lima Township, in an 8′ by 10′ room in a small house. After reaching out to hundreds of television stations to try to drum up business, Jeff Van Riper, president of Speedy Spots, along with his coworkers, converted a chicken coop to a studio and moved the business to its new home, 90 feet away.

In 2012, Van Riper purchased the old Stuckeys building on Fletcher Road just off I-94, and that is the home of Speedy Spots and Audio Acres.

“I discovered a service niche of providing high quality voice overs to stations with quick turnaround, at a very affordable cost, with outstanding customer service,” said Van Riper. “For nearly 20 years, Speedy Spots has specialized in providing voice talent to customers worldwide including television and radio stations, documentaries, movie theaters, ad agencies and audio books.”

Van Riper expanded the business in 2015 with Audio Acres, a small-scale, state of the art recording studio that provides the latest in digital audio and video technology.

“With the success of Speedy Spots, we now have the opportunity to provide local musicians with a state of the art studio that won’t tax their budget,” said Van Riper. “With Audio Acres, we’ve created a fun, laid back atmosphere where creativity can find a home.”

Van Riper and his wife Bridgette both grew up in Chelsea, and he credits the experiences they gained for their successful partnership in life and in business.

“You can’t do all of that unless you have community support,” he said. “Chelsea has changed a lot over the years, but it continues to attract people wanting the same things we wanted, and it proves what an amazing community it really is.”
